Default LS6 intake, 04+ valley cover, LS1 4-1 coolant lines. Fit?

Hey guys,

Been looking around on here, and I cannot find a definite answer to what I am trying to do. I need to know for sure whether or not this will fit.

I have an 01 LS6 block. Going to run the 04+ LS6 valley cover (internal PCV) model 12568478. This is NOT the same model number on LS1howto. I think there may be a little bit of a difference in the "nubs" on top. I do not know. But I am talking about the latest revision to the valley cover.

I found someone selling a new take-off older style 4-1 coolant crossover pipe that I want to run. I'd rather use this than splice my own 2+2 to 1 system together due to trying to keep the engine bay as clean as possible.

I know I have to grind my LS6 intake fins to fit the coolant tubes. No big deal.

But the 04+ LS6 valley cover has some "nubs" on the top side that apparently might have some interference with the 4-1 coolant lines. I've read that someone had it fit with an LS1 intake, but they said the LS6 would be an issue. Why would that be even if the fins are ground down? Apparently to get it to fit with the LS1 intake there was just a little bit of tube bending to be done.

But has anyone used these tubes with an LS6 intake with the fins ground down and the 04+ valley cover? I've looked and looked on here, and maybe I wasn't searching right, but I could not find a definite 1st hand answer.

If it won't fit, then I won't buy the 4-1 and I'll make up my own using a second LS6 tube with some hose and tees. Much rather keep it cleaner with the 4-1 though.

Thanks in advance!!

If you can get it to fit, you still have the problem that the knock sensor harness wire can get crushed/broken where it crosses the pipe. This happened to me with just putting the LS1 intake back on, since the wire was crossing the pipe in a bad spot. The VC does have nubs where the bolts go in from the underside that hold the box thing on. If you route the harness wire near one of those nubs (not over it) and underneath the pipe then the pipe couldn't crush it, just tape the wire to the VC so it can't move.

Remember in 05 they went Gen 4, so make sure it is a Gen 3 cover or it will not fit. I would suggest capping the two rear ports, and running the newer style front crossover and being done with it.

I also utilized 2 LS6 Style Front Crossover Tubes when performing this upgrade. I simply ran a piece of fuel line from the rear to a brass "T" fitting in the front to connect it to the Front Tube and then both of them to the line that goes to the Radiator.

I went this route so I wouldn't have to shave the ribs off my LS6 Intake, or flatten the original vent tubes that run under the intake. This way I could also be sure I wouldn't pinch one of the Knock Sensor Wires.

adding a rear LS6 steam pipe points the outlet to the rear.......not to the front which would make joining them together much easier.......thats why i did not join them

I ran 2 truck vent tubes with the nipple straight up, then ran rubber line down the bank 2 fuel rail, and rubber line across the back so it "T" into the front line.

Its really not that difficult to connect the Rear Facing Vent Tube to the one in the front. You simply need to be sure you don't kink the Hose, Fuel Line, or whatever type of piping you use when you make the "U" Turn to plumb it to the front of the engine.

Although its difficult to tell by the pictures posted, it sounds like the Truck Vent Tubes would make it even easier to plumb a line from the rear. Especially if they exit Upwards, instead of towards the Firewall like the LS6 Style.

To the O.P.: Let us know what you decide and post up some pics of your completed setup. Good luck.

Do you have a part number for those vent tubes (or which year/model truck are they from)...?

Very interesting...

Do you have some closer-up pics...?

What is on the ends of your hoses and how did you attach to the vent tubes.

I've considered drilling/tapping the heads for tube nut fittings, but I don't know how much room there is.

I really don't want to be a jerk here, but can someone answer the question I originally asked? LOL

I've seen numerous threads on here about running the two separate tubes, but that is not what I'm looking to do. I just want to know if the 4 to 1 will fit with the new updated 04 valley cover and a "de-finned" LS6 intake.

Thanks!!

Yeah, I saw that post, but it starts right off with "If you can get it to fit,"

I think I'll just go ahead and buy one. If it doesn't work, then I'll try one of the other options.

Definitely keep us posted, if you please. I have to do this ASAP myself, but I'm not sure of what all I'll need/have to do.

Finally got to doing this today. Had to do some bending of the crossover tube, but yes, it does work.

where did you get these vent tubes, i know you stated from a truck, but which year did you use, does the front one still have the rubber hose off the front to connect to the radiator, and what style fitting did it take to cross it over?

Any pictures? I have the exact same setup was thinking about heating the tube up and bending it a different way if needed.
