Ever since I put in the poly mounts, I have a vibration between 1500-2000 rpm that comes throught the steering wheel. Only in the steering wheel. Not in the seat, not in the body of the car. Does anyone else have this, or am I the only one? No one else seems to say anything, or are other people just dealing with vibrations? Thanks.
I have a very similar issue after installing my mounts and headers. Keep us posted. Weather is nice today so I'm gonna go out and look through some stuff.
to kenp, is that what your issue was? vibration between 1500-2000 rpm in the steering wheel? I had already looked, but I looked again; there is no contact with the steering shaft and the engine/exhaust. I was talking to a Dodge "master mechanic." He pointed out how the engine and steering basically sit a cradle that bolts up to the car. Which would explain the vibration coming throught the steering shaft only. I ordered oem mounts and will put them back on. It was a real PIA to put these in, so I wasn't excited about doing it again.
I have polyurethane mounts and it smoothed things up-I love them. I had a shudder/vibration at about the same RPM due to my polyurethan tranny mount being slightly off. Energy Suspension replaced it then it ran smooth again.

Most people just deal with it I think. I noticed it as well, but my expectations were inline with the result.
Interesting, been 50/50 if to get these or just put oem mounts in. Iv put billet engine mounts into front wheel drive cars and the vibrations cause of no give were unbarreable and that was just on a road test but the customer wanted it as stiff as possible, they also had front and rear strut braces as well as one across the middle of the floor pan.

I didn't have anything touching, it's just engine harmonics. The oem mounts absorb most of it, whereas the hard poly mounts transmit the harmonics. For some reason, the steering column is the path of least resistance or the most noticeable location since your hands are on the steering wheel. Some people don't mind it, while people like me that do 99% of their driving on the street, just don't want the aggravation. I absolutely hated driving my car when the poly mounts were bolted up.
It seems like some people that have aftermarket tubular K Members don't see the harmonics issue through the steering column. I haven't given a thought to why that is because it doesn't apply to my car and the poly mounts are gone.
I dd my car 110 miles a day 4 days a week on the interstate at speeds between 70-80 and have no issues with my poly mounts. I do have the factory rubbber trans mount though. I have never had the k member un bolted. I changed to hooker lt's and did the black poly mounts at the same time. I have driven the car 70k miles so far and evrything is fine. I have factory front a arms or control arms, and umi poly non adjustables in the rear with factory panhard and torque arm also. Maybe this will help eliminate the problems some of you have been having and help identify the problem.....
Im inclined to agree, because motor mounts are not attached to the steering wheel. Maybe he has an engine with a bad balancer and the factory mounts absorbed this where as the poly dosent. I get that this would mean the mounts are causing the immediate problem but the overall picture may be larger. Just thinking here...
I have a similar occasional vibration in the floorboard. I don't know if it's in the passenger floorboard as well, as I never sit there. It's just an occasional bump type feeling as if something rubs up against it for just a spit second every few seconds. It does it at idle as well as higher rpms, in neutral as well as any gear. Sorry if this is considered a hijack, but to make another thread about almost the same thing seemed like a waste.
I don't know, bring the car to me and I will tell you but.........there is no correlation between Motor Mounts and what he is describing. I would venture to say it's probably in the front end, a wheel maybe.
