Default Stealth vs. Performance

All,
I currently have done the following mods to my 1998 Z28

Completed Mods-
American Racing Headers
American Racing Catted Y pipe
Magnaflow Cat Back Exhaust
Lid

I have purchased a ported fast 90/90 set up and will be puting it on prior to this summer. My questions is actually regarding keeping the car sounding like a stock car? I purposely purchased the magnaflow as it was one of the quieter exhausts on the market with good flow. I spoke with Texas Speed about a mild cam for the car which would still help retain a quieter idle. It was suggested to get the TSP 228 cam. Anyone used this cam and have any suggestions or commments on it?

My goal is to keep the car as quiet as possible, however i do not want to have a week sister car either. I am going for more of a stealthy look. Does anyone have any other suggestions? I am relatively new to posting, thanks in advance to your input.

Thanks,

EPS 222/226 115lsa would be really stealth sounding and make great power all over the RPM range. The 228R is a great cam as well. Several guys run it. I'm sure some will chime in about it. But the EPS gets my vote. Awesome camshafts.

I guess it depends on what you mean by stealthy. I have
a 224 on 116 cam and everybody knows it's there. Not
crazy choppy but you can't miss it. And that's stock
CME muffler (no cats).

yeah, that would be funny! I am just trying to get the maximum performance without a old school street rod sound. I am just not that into the loud street rod sound on these cars............i like it on old school muscle cars.

Any stealth cam can be heard. If you want it to sound really stock get an 02 to 04 LS6 cam and some milled 5.3 heads

IMO, get the 228/228 with a 114lsa and also add a Dynomax #24248(4" dia. 18" case L., 409SS) or Magnaflow 14419 (4"dia. 14" case L., 304SS) muffler in the I-pipe. This way it should be halfway quiet/stealthy, but you'll still have a good sized cam.

this^.....first of all is it your dd? because id question driveabilty, to me drivability > power. is it an auto or m6? isnt the 228 with the stock converter going to be a bit bad?....i THINK with a larger LSA like the 116 you will still miss alot of the low end hp\tq so a slightly bigger than the ls6 cam and a tighter lsa than 116 would be a better choice if am correct...

I thought it was a M6?
Well if it's a A4 trans then you definitely need a higher stall TC!
Unless he's willing to go with a really small cam, the cam performance cam sound is still going to be there, so that's why I suggested the tsp 228 w/114lsa and just try reducing the loudness of the exhaust instead.

It is an M6. It is not my daily driver, but my summer cruiser. I do not want to sacrifice too much driveability. I am not a guy that needs a ridiculous amount of HP, and do NOT want the loud thumpy sound of a big cam. Dont get me wrong, i very much enjoy that on muscle cars, just not my z convertible.

You don't consider a 98z an older muscle car? Let that thing growl...

i feel you. as much as i love muscle and the thumpy sounds of them. id rather have a comfortable, driveable car...if you're into a cam you might as well post in the internals...i was going to go cam and some really trusted guys recommended the 212\218 112 or 114..that is for an auto, incase of your m6 you could always go a bit bigger..good luck.

Which company cut your cams? Got lift specs?
Supposedly this engine in front of me has a 224/224-116 too.

In that case go with a 224/224 114lsa, or smaller.

I had an original Lingenfelter GT2-3 (they changed it at one point) back when I had a stock motor. It was on a 119.5 LSA and the car sounded stock, but pulled to 6500+. With some lightly ported stock heads it made 370rwhp and drove like stock too. I believe LPE also makes a GT11 or something like that that is supposed to be super close to stock sounding. Otherwise, stock cams are the only ones that will sound, well....stock.

+1 That is the cam that I currently have along with LPE ported heads pulling the same power. No one believes me that the car isn't stock until they go for a ride. Idles and sounds like stock even with LT's and SLP dual/dual exhaust and pulls real good from about 2500 rpm on up. Awesome 'baby' stealth cam IMO.
