Default header removal help

I am removing my old ps headers and replacing them with tsp headers. I am having a problem getting the ds header out. I have a few questions:

1. how does the steering arm remove?

2. does the ds heat shield need to be reinstalled?

I will also be swapping out mm's for polys.

steering arm was the easiest thing to remove when i did mine...there was like 2 bolts to loosen and the whole thing came out..there isnt a specific way to remove headers..just look around and take your time! good luck.

Get the car jacked up high. So you can tip the header to the right angle.

the front tube of the ds header is hitting on the steering shaft, not allowing it to pass. I unbolted the bolt closest to the firewall and the bolt closest to the steering rack. I cant get the steering shaft to slide.

Use a bunch of wd40. Put your key in so you can turn the wheel. Then Just pull up on the bottom of the knuckle until it comes off. It just takes elbow grease

It's notched. So it only goes on a certain way.

The other problem you could be having is since you dont have poly motor mounts the stock ruber ones could of collapsed in a sence and the motor is now lower then before. you may have to unbolt the driver side motor mount jack the motor up and it should lide right out because with the motor jacked up you will have more clearence between the head and the stearing knuckle.

I got the steering shaft off and the header out. Moving on to the mm's. I got the big bolt out of the ds mm, starting to work on the 4 clamshell bolts that hold them to the block.

when people put the ds header in, did you put the heat shield in or leave it out?

Most people leave it out. I left mine out. It's not gonna cause any problems theres no wires running in that general area anyway. Make sure you use a sharp drill bit. Helps it go faster and a can of wd-40.. Drill press works great if you have one. I didn't have one so i have to do it with a drill almost broke my wrist one night drilling one of the holes since the bit was dull.

I got the ds mm swapped out. I will start the ps next weekend. Maybe my arms will heal a little by then. It looks like a cat used my arms as scratch posts. lol

I have both mm's in and bolted down with the headers installed. Now my tranny pan is leaking bad.
