You're going to have to get a 2.5 inch Y in order for it to hook up to the stock manifolds I believe. I ran that setup for a while, had my stock SS catback and stock manifolds. Definitely made the car louder but it was very raspy sounding, didn't really like it very much. Put the money towards a catback instead.

I have QTP headers with their Y-pipe (use's the flow master Y) welded into the OEM high performance catback. Here's what it sounds like. http://vimeo.com/13286856 It's a little raspy but overall I think it's a good sound. I'm probably going to run a magnaflow here soon just to see if I can pick up some more hp.

I have a Magnaflow catback with an O/R Y right now, stock manifolds as well. Sounds very good, throaty and deep, car has very minimal rasp. You will definitely like it.

I wanted my car to sound a bit louder as well. I went the old fashion way, removing the cats. I ran an LM1 with no cats on stock manifolds and y pipe out back and man it was loud. I then switched to a LM2 dumped still no cats on stock manifolds and y pipe. Sound is amazing! heres a couple vids of my car.
LM1 no cats, stock manifolds y pipe out back.

LM2 no cats, stock manifolds, y pipe, dumped.

OP, it all depends on what sound you are going for! I have straight pipes from my headers all the way to my catback and the sound is great. The only real problem is with pretty much any Y pipe paired with long tube headers, you are going to get some sort of rasp especially with a cat delete. Are you working on a budget? If not, screw a catback, save money and go true duals with dynomax bullet single chamber mufflers. That is my next move even after having a $850 catback!
