Default LS6 Valley Cover

Guys, I just ordered an LS6 valley cover. I have a question. I noticed that there's a ground strap on the original pcv hose, what is that for? Also, what is the part number for the pcv plug that goes in the valve cover? I'm a little scared of cutting a piece of the block, but I'm going to have to do it. Part of the reasons why I ordered it is because I broke my original hose, and figured this would be cheaper and faster to do. I should be getting it tomorrow, so I'll start the install right away.

I just removed the PCV valve all together when I installed my LS6 valley cover. Did you get the old style, or new style cover?

The plug number should be GM Part # 12568011

In case you havent seen it, heres a how-to with part numbers: http://www.ls1howto.com/index.php?article=18

Not to worry about the cutting. Just make sure you stick some rags in there to control the crud from the cut.
About 2 mos ago, someone else asked about that strap.
Here's a related thread.....

Don't be afraid to cut the block. I installed the 04+ LS6 valley cover almost 2 years ago. I cut it a very simple way, I was actually able to get a fullsize hacksaw in there to cut the block and it cut through like butter. Then took vise grips and locked onto the cut and snapped it off.. Far less metal shavings than a cutoff wheel. I had rags stuffed in there and spent plenty of time vacuuming it out. Almost 2 years later car is still running strong.

Also, good chance to replace your knock sensors and wiring harness since they have to come off anyway. And put some RTV sealant under the knock sensor boot to seal it back up.

Here is a pic of the cover, and the engine it will be going on. It's for my 2000 Camaro. It had a blown head gasket, so I replaced them, added a pair of 241 heads that came off of my brothers (30,XXX miles) '01 Z28, and added LS7 lifters as well. I'll also be adding an aftermarket PS cooler, and doing the throttle body coolant bypass mod to it. A transmission oil cooler is also in the works.

I finally installed the valley cover, but didn't finish putting the car together because I broke the oil pressure switch when I was installing the intake. Word of advice for those looking to do this, get the ls6 steam tubes. It was a pain trying to figure that thing out, that's the reason I broke the oil switch.

Still a good idea to run a catch can, but when I installed an ls6 valley cover I went from adding a whole quart between oil changes to not a drop lost.

Can you run the hose from the cover straight to the intake or do you need the pcv valve ??

If yes... what did you do for a pcv valve ??

This cover has an internal pcv system, so I just went and ordered the correct hose from my local Chevy dealer. I'll post pics later.
