Default Balancer install - does this sound right?

He guys,

I put my engine back together with the stock balancer. Crank only had the journals polished when it was out.

When I put the balancer back on, I followed the proper directions. On the last step, I could not get about the last 40 degrees of turn on it. It seemed to be going fine until that point and was getting increasingly harder to turn, then it just seemed like it hit a "hard spot" that would was too much for me to get past. Still had 40 degrees to go.

The engine is still on the stand, and its getting hooked up to a 4L60e this weekend and going into the car, where I hoped to get better leverage on it to torque it some more.

Anyways, does that "hard spot" sound normal?

Are you talking about stretching the bolt? Because if you are don't worry about those last 40 degrees. I got mine to about 90 degrees snapped two sockets trying to take it further wouldn't go. And I've put several hundred miles on my car now. No problems what so ever. Look up the heads and cam swap on ls1howto.com it explains the balancer installer towards the end if the right up.

Idk where you would even get a torque wrench to go that high. mine maxes out and 160 and thats a bitch as it is. 90 degrees is good enough in my opinion. i'm not gonna hurt myself trying to get those last 40 degree's lol.

We tightened mine until we couldn't anymore and then while I had it on a lift I did chinups practically from a breaker bar. Still wouldn't turn.

When I put mine on I used the balancer tool then tightened the bolt to 37 ft lbs then turned it about 140 or so degrees.

I marked my bolt at the 12 o'clock & at 5 o'clock on the balancer.. I could only get it to about 4 using a breaker bar. It's been fine.

I ended up using a impact grade socket from auto zone, half inch drive cheater bar with a piece of stainless exhaust tubing for an extension to get even more leverage. We got the full 140* but damn I was scared the breaker bar was going to snap lol. Also I did this with the whole front end of the car out while my dad was stabilzing the front end while I torqued it down.
