My cousin ran his Trans am with LT, ORY, with a hooker catback and it was pretty raspy... I used to run a high flow catted TSP y pipe on my Z28 with LT's and a LM1 with a Borla XR1, and there was no rasp... If rasp is your concern then i would definitely go catted, it is a little more expensive but a lot less pain in the *** when you get pulled over by a cop or when inspection time comes around every year! hope this helps

Cats are classy. I'm poor, no cats. Plan on getting cats soon. Also, there's some law no one cares about.

the closer to the front of the system that you can keep them, the better they'll work, and the longer they'll last.

lol find the source of the rasp. how many true dual cars with quality headers do you hear with rasp? lately people have been targeting most aftermarket y-pipe merges.

yeah TD's are super nice and sound good, but im gonna stick with the Y pipe setup, and yeah i know the Y merge is mostly to blame, but the TSP y is pretty good about having a good merger.

thanks for the reply

I was wondering about that. I didn't know if Magnaflow suggested a certain distance from the header for efficiency and longevity.

This is just from my experience, but my car does not have cats. The smell isn't really even that bad to me, the car got MUCH louder and the rasp increased quite a bit and I don't even have a cam, I also didn't really even notice any performance difference. But the strange thing is, my Dad's C6 has a cam with high-flow cats and his car almost smells exactly like my car when idling, so I'm assuming the fumes and noise level would be quite a bit more drastic on a cammed car. So, I say if you just want the extra noise and fumes then go for it, other than that stick with a good set of high-flow cats.

im thinking about installing a cat after the y pipe. i know for sure there will be a cat(s) somewhere.

The car moves pretty good IMO, and it puts a smile on my passengers faces as well. But its a work in progress. Def would like to get some 243s and a slightly larger cam, and some konis after this. And if my car moves, then yours must fly, it is a bird after all!!!
My hawk does ok, still can't play with the Z06 guys. That big block is hard to compete with. My next mod is a Strange 12b. My current one is on the fritz again (3 times a charm, only have 57k miles), so I'm done messing around. I want some tires that stick and not have to worry about blowing my alburn posi out the back. I don't even drag race this car (at a track), just some street fun.

So are what are you going to do with the car?

well the plans are (you know how that goes sometimes) the plans are for it to be a weekend/auto cross/nice day driver. I ultimately would like a 6.0 with supporting mods, but for what it is now (5.7) i would like a nice set of 243's 224-228 cam (nothing extreme) the full exhaust that we're talking about now, strano bars, koni's, 12 bolt, fast intake, and the cts-v brake setup just to name a few, i could go on...... the never ending upgrade parade of our beloved f-bodies.

yeppers. Im going to go with the TSP catted Y. Worst case scenario i hate it right? and then buy an ORY anyways. LOL.

yeah those future mods are on my wish list. If i go 6.0 route then those mods change a little, but you get the idea. If i can get a 400+ rwhp cannon carver i would be happy (never satisfied ) There are some ricers and rustangs that need an f-body size 13 shoved up there ***.
