I did pretty much the same modifications you did, in the dead of winter in the garage, so I wasn't able to drive the car for a couple months. I did note that it sounded like the garbage truck at the time. When I finally drove the car, I was giggling like an idiot. Get a good Y-pipe that doesn't bang against stuff, get your exhaust buttoned up so it doesn't leak, and you'll be pleased. The car will be noisier, but you will feel that noise paying off when you put the foot down. Short of forced induction or increased displacement, going from bone stock to full exhaust and tune is the biggest payoff in seat of the pants power that you can do!

Oh forgot to add... The critical part of the Y is, of course, the merge. You can get the merge alone and give that piece to your exhaust guy. Then just tell him to weld it into a Y that does not bang against crap. A good merge alone should cost in the 50 dollar range. Just a thought.

For me, it wasn't the Y that was bangin, it was the header collector on the drivers side.

Here is a video of the rasp and some knocking. Hard to hear on my phone and the exhaust sounds wayyy better on this video than in person.

That was recorded with an old Droid X the picture quality might not be top notch but it captures sound very well.

Yes, thank you for acknowledging my post. I feel good now.

The audio was ok though. I'd give it the carrot of approval.

why has nobody yet addressed the headers not sealing to the head? all the issues greatly ressemble a leak between the headers and the head......what gaskets did you use? hopefully none of those felt pieces of crap.........is there a power loss all throughout the rpm band? if only low rpms than check for a leak between the headers and heads......my drivers side leaks because of a broken bolt and feels like it misses all the time below 3000.....up high tho shes fine......i could only imagine how bad it would be if both sides leaked..........honestly before i woudl take it to a shop, id check for a header leak.

I bought Fel-pro gaskets for the headers. I still have the originals from the manifolds if those would work better.

Will do. I just got back from the exhaust shop. I showed him the picture of other Y pipes and their clearances too. He said there's nothing he can do about it hitting. "There's a limited space and that's about as good as I can do." So I did get a refund at least. I took him for a ride and let him here the banging. So I'm gonna take that money and save up for duals.

I'll change the header gaskets tomorrow after work. Should'nt be to hard to do it now. My stock gaskets there are 4 of them. 2 full length metal were on one side and 2 full length metal on the other.

Got lucky I guess. He could see how "disappointed" I was and you could see in his face how he couldn't figure out how to do it differently.

Did your headers come with the emissions fittings? If so, check them for cracks/leaks. I had a set of Ebay headers with a cracked fitting/exhaust leak.

They did. I had them welded up by a local machine shop before I put them on.

Damn, If you already checked for exhaust leaks, cracked plugs, loose plug wires then you probably need to get your butt dyno re-calibrated.
