Default What features do you need in an LS wire set?

I’m posting here to find out if there are any spark plug wireset features that the LS community needs or would like to see. I work for a manufacturer that supplies engine management parts for the automotive aftermarket. We are in the process of introducing a new spark plug wire line and would like to get input regarding the LS engine. What do you get for responding? Nothing, except the possibility that your feedback will be used to develop performance wiresets for the LS engine. Now, I’m sure someone is thinking “I have a suggestion, make a wire set that will install its-self”. While that would be nice, it’s not the type of feedback we are looking for.

Got some ideas?

Having been through a few sets (and happy enough with
the black MSD wires on there now) I'd say you want to
be able to show us quality and fit.

Had Taylor Thundervolt wires pull apart on me. This is
just poor design I think, they are not tough enough.

Had LS2 plug wires get their insulation burnt by the header
primary. Performance cars' exhaust plumbing is going to
need an angled plug boot that can be made to clear both
stock and header exhaust.

Aside from that, wires is wires more or less and you've got
entrenched competition.

jimmyblue, attached are pics of 3 different styles of angled plugboots, which one do you think whould be best for a LS with headers?
Since you mentioned MSD, are you running their straight boots that are bendable or are you running one of their angled boots?

Im sure he is talking about the straight boots that are bendable. Thats what I use also.

Back to suggestions. Grannatelli basicly has a top notch wire with zero resistance. They can be had with some very nice heat shields also. They also have a patent on their zero resistance solid core design with no noise.

I would say add about an extra half inch of wire over what is out there

After doing many myself and trying a bunch of brands, heres what I look for:

Most important:
High temp resistant,
High quality such as granatelli,OEM
AND header clearance.

Boot wise, definitely the first boot.

To me low ohms is a good thing but doesn't have to be 0, anything less than 200 and I'd be happy.

Having bad luck with MSD wires not clicking and causing misfires, I went back to stock. have wires with positive click to know you have them on.

Something that won't tear or pull off after removing them a few times.

I appreciate the responses.

ULTIMATEORANGESS: The plugboots are molded at a plant in Georgia and the wire is extruded at our plant in Indiana.

There was also a comment about the market being full, I agree. There are lots of companies out there selling wires, some make their own and some don't. We are a basic manufacturer in this category, have been for years.
A few years ago we started supplying some NASCAR builders/teams with wiresets. So we're going to launch a High Performance line based off our NASCAR sets. For those that have commented on wire resistance... we have two levels of wire, a 170 ohm/ft 8.5mm wire and a 15 ohm/ft 9mm wire.
Most of the NASCAR teams we supply run the 9mm.

parks450: Header clearance is my biggest concern because of the variety thats out there, thats why I'd think that the bendable style might be the best way to go.

KennyD: when you say the MSD's arent clicking do you mean on the plug or at the coil?

Here's a question, would a set that is unfinished on the coil end and has, lets say 15" leads be of interest? (For those LS's that have non-stock coil mounting).

You might want to make a post in the Conversions & Hybrids section. I think your 15" long unfinished sets may be of use in some engine swaps.

This all sounds very interesting but I already reached to the top shelf and got Granatelli wires. At this point, any and every car I'll ever own will have Granatelli wires-including my S10 daily driver.

BlueStreak, did you ever work in Long Island City?

I will say that the race wire sets look very nice-and complete. Numbered heat shrinks, grease, fire sox, even the tool to crimp the terminals.

Paul, No I've never worked in LIC. The wire division is spread among 3 locations, Edwardsville KS, Mishawaka IN and Reynosa MX.

OK, thanks. Years ago, my brother designed Jiffy Kits, points & caps & stuff then went on to EIS Friction. He and I still use Blue Streak components when we can.
