Post Push Button start??

i have a 1999 Trans am Ws6..my car when i bought it had (still does) push start i was woundering how do i go about getting rid of that push start and just using the key to start it?.. or will that be a Pain in the A$$ and just go with a S2000 Push start button?... the button i have on it now is ghetto and looks bad..

I would recommend taking it to an alarm shop that does remote starts. They are familiar with the starting circuits and might could get you back to stock fairly easily.

yea that sounds about right.. i Usually fixs my own cars.. but i wont screw with wiring.. thanks for the input

Sad what some people do to not fix the real fault. And getting it repaired should not be hard for any good Mech. Probably started with a vat problem.

you have no idea lol.. when i bought it the door was missing some screws Bolts were missing just stupid crap that the owner didnt put back together .. who ever had this car before me should never own a LS1 ever again

i can use my key or push button start on my car. Any alarm shop should be able to fix you issue though

The wiring for starter comes out of the ignition switch mounted to lower end of column. On older gm's that I've personally worked on this is probably a large gauge pink, or pink/wht wire, possibly purple. Shouldn't be too hard to find where someone hacked into it & ran the lead to the push button.

Does your ignition key have the chip in it? If not, the previous owner probably did a hillbilly fix to bypass the vehicle anti-theft (VAT) system.

Purple is the start wire on GMs, not pink.

vats chip is in computer, will still crank, but not stay running without it. Original (purple)wire was probably cut in half to install the push button. My point was if you look into the harness where it wascut into, you should be able to reconnect back to switch.

OR, hook up in tandem with that super awesome push button & have both.
PS, I must be gettin too old to remember all those wire colors, good thing I don't work for bomb squad. Do i cut blue or red?

During a swap involving a 98 PCM with the VATS enabled the car would fire once (you could audibly hear it) but never run.
