Default 6" velocity stack intake

I've been contemplating building a velocity stack intake. I'm thinking of going to a 92/ 92 or 102/ 102 fast and want to build an intake rather than buy a bigger lid, maf, tubing, etc. ( I do plan on going SD). I just wanted to know if anybody has experience with this, pictures and where to buy from. Any help or suggestions is much appreciated.

Try www.velocity-of-sound.com I bought their 6" x 4" velocity stack and it was a real nice piece. Look under turbo bellmouths for the size you want. Click on the picture.

Where exactly are you planning to run the velocity stack? Do you want to integrate an air filter or are you completely ditching the filter?

I'd like to be able to run a filter for when I cruise or street drive the car. It's a trans am so I was thinking of using the lic plate cutout or trying something with the fog light openings

That's gonna be tricky then. You have two options to run a filter too.
1. Run a bellmouth velocity stack up front then piping to a sealed charge box with a filter, then from there to your throttle body.

I think a Mugen type filter setup is what you'll need to keep the velocity stack working. But idk if it'll still work like that. If it's going to work the entire system has to be sealed and you can't let water get sucked in there. Pretty sure quality cone air filters are designed to work like a velocity stack though.

2. Put a velocity stack air filter on the bellmouth so air is filtered up front.

Google velocity stack filter and you'll see what you gotta do.

would it defeat the purpose of the velocity stack if you run a filter?

Spectre makes a plastic chrome bellmouth. They also have inline filters.
Ryne ,the function of a velocity stack is to cram more air into the smaller sized opening, The given filter won't affect it anymore than a non velocity stack opening.

they make large diameter cone filters that will fit over a nice velocity stack. That would be your best bet for street use... And yes, running a stack and then a filter is pointless.

You CAN use an inline filter but you'll need trial and error testing or a fluid dynamic simulater to maintain laminar flow through the intake stream.

There are 3 filter types to run with a stack. The mushroom looking cap that goes on top, a true velocity stack filter (cone filter on top of a velocity stack), and the plug type that goes into the stack. The true velocity stack filter is the best IMO because the cone flows and filters the best.

Up to you what kind of filter to run but first you might want to skim this.

I might end up making something like this for 4" piping. 7" filter base funnel down to 4" piping ought to breathe pretty good
