I've got an 02 C5 Vette I 90% drag race and it spray 175hp max shot through the Corsa brand "tigershark" system from headers back.
My question is, this car still has all 4 O2 sensors (2 infront of cats & 2 behind them) & i'm wondering when i'm spraying it would it benefit me to remove these cats but still keep the entire full length exhaust? (not open headers)
Or at least bust the guts out of them so they are a straight through pipe & still keep the entire exhaust system? (not open headers)
would it screw with my tune now the cats are no longer there??

this is probably a dumb question but is there anyway i can tell if they are already tuned out? (without a laptop w/ a hp tuners or EFI etc)
I mean, I do all my own work but Speed inc tunes it & i'm betting they already did tune them out?

I gutted my cats along time ago. Have headers and no mufflers. Everyone once in a while I would get a converter efficiency code. When i got my car tuned, my tuner widened the parameters. Vettes get less codes with gutted cats because the rear o2s have a higher switching rate. I also believe the rear o2s do fuel trim fine tuning. I had o2 simulators on my other c5, car was always on the rich side. So i just leave all 4 in and working. Tuner can tweak them.

I bought a piece of 6' 3" tubing & band clamps from our local muffler shop to make for the pipes that will replace the cats & when i got under there I unscrewed the rear O2's & let them hang with plugs in the bungs & no codes.
So luckily my cats are a in middle of a 2' pipe (x2) so i removed the 2 other band clamps & to make a long story short I ended up gutting the factory stainless pipes rather than put other pieces in place. All i can say is that was a real bitch doing that....... OMG i had no idea that it would be that hard to remove all that honeycomb stuff but its done and reinstalled & i fired it back up last night with all 4 O2's in place & it has a deeper more hollow sound to it, and so far no codes.
I'll be at the track Friday night so i'll report back if any improvements

The car feels different doesn't it? I have a cam and stuff too, so when I gutted my cats, the car responds immediately. I can tell a difference. I've done so many other mods I can't say how much power it added. But the more power one is making, the more gutted cats will help. Yah, the sound is awesome too

I haven't drove it yet, way to late to driving that loud monster in my neighborhood lol - The 4k converter & the nasty sounding cam & burned out mufflers are hard to hide lol

Update, drove it to & from the track & no codes, the air was really good but either way it ran its best motor & N2O passes to date Friday night.
I'd say removing them was a good choice! - Thanks for the help guys!
