I'm purchasing the 102 intake and Nick Williams 102 TB. Did you guys switch your MAF's also or stay with the stock?

Definately switch the MAF or go SD and get a FTP lid. I went with the GM Z06 witch is actually 90mm even though everyone says 85mm....but I also have a FAST 92.

The shop that's installing everything tells me I'm good with the 85mm but I'm thinking that kind of defeats the purpose of going to a 102 setup. But I'm not the one to know. If I don't need to spend the money on the MAF than I'd rather not. What gains do you achieve by replacing it?

If your spending the money on the 102/102 and a tune I'd definately do the maf sensor. Depending on what you've got internally it may hold you back 10rwhp. I'm running a 102/102/85maf sensor and I wish I had went bigger. I just can't justify giving 500 bucks in parts and 450 for at une to pick up maybe 5rwhp.

FYI you can get used GM 90mm MAF's on ebay all day for $40-$50. Then you'll need the wiring harness....think that was like $20. I don't know what I gained from it as I did from lid to FAST intake at the same time. I got one because I didn't want an SD tune for several reasons, one being they are more money.

I don't know what the difference would be between a 100mm and 90mm MAF on a 102 setup. I can't imagine it would be that much especially on just a H/C car.

Big cubes will test the 85 mm maf.

Like Orange Juice said, a smaller MAF like an 85mm may hold back some power on a big cube motor.

On a stock cube head and cam motor, not so much. It isn't so much the inlet size opening that factors into how much power you make. It's the superior runner design of the FAST intake that makes the increased power.

Bingo.

If you watch the dyno section here you will likely find it takes a stout heads/cam combo creeping over the 480rwhp range to benefit from the larger MAF than the 85mm.

The easy way is to just log for vacuum at WOT. It will tell you if you're choking it or not.

Go with the 85 and dont look back, Im not a fan of the SLP one. I have heard that the TSP 100MM is a nice part.

Most will run a 100mm MAF setup along with that 102mm intake. Just be aware that the card style MAF sensors that are run in most, if not all, of these 100mm MAF kits are much more time consuming/difficult to tune than your run of the mill 85mm MAF's are. Check in with your tuner first and make sure he/she is willing and able to tune that thing!
