Default True duals without x/h pipe. Who has done it? How is the sound?

Just as the title says.

I need to redo my exhaust setup, but for the time being, I am wondering who has done this setup.

I am looking to have 3" off of the collectors that go through metallic core cats and dump. It's about two feel worth of piping from the headers so I am not too worried about the o2 sensors.

I know some of you have done this and I want to know your experience.

I already run LT's, 3" catted through an FM-merge with a powerstick than dumped before the axel.

I am beyond sick of this setup.

What do you all think?

I know with a Y-pipe a muffler is an absolute MUST.
However, is that the case for duals?

My previous set up was true duals with 2 flowmaster 40's under the axel an out the back all 3" no x/h. It sounded pretty good for what it was an was loud as hell at wot. Now I have tx speed duals with x an love it. I will say having an x/h will help with back pressure an in my m6 with 4.10 gears its amazing how much i stay in my poweband during ***** now bc of the back pressure. Not sure if this helps but good luck.

It'll sound like an old pickup truck. Regardless of the engine or the mufflers used, straight pipes with no merge is going to sound like ***. Also, no muffler on duals is going to be loud, but especially with straight pipes, it's going to be just straight loud noise - no tone, just an old dump truck.

Also, backpressure is bad. Without going into Advanced Tech, it is bad, has always been bad, and always will be bad. If your exhaust system piping is too large, you'll lose power down low because of a loss of scavenging; if the pipes are too small, you'll lose power on the top because it's restricting flow. You won't gain power with either setup; it'll simply feel like it because you're losing power in another part of the powerband.

A properly-designed setup will have good scavenging and absolutely minimal backpressure.

You want some kind of muffler. It will still be very loud even with mufflers.

I have 3" duals with no cats and no x or h:

Thanks for the responses.
Wow, I've kind of a ******* idiot, I completely left out my intentions for putting bullets on the thing. The main focus of the thread should have been no x or H WITH bullets.

Thank you for the well articulated responses about scavenging. It is a concept I grasp, however I am not too concerned with it for now as this will be something temporary.

I am 100% in agreement about the farm truck. Even with my powerstick, it still sounds like an old pickup truck to me.

Just wondering if that can be avoided with pipes, cats and bullets.

I know there's a few dudes here who have done it.
