Default 2000 Camaro SS build First Post

Okay in an effort to keep this to a single thread I moved the original post I had here down to post #3.
I'm going to keep an index here at the first post so you can reference various parts of my build.

*Original Cat-back post Page1 #17
*Original car before any modifications Page2 #25
*EGR removal/delete Page2 #28
*AIR removal/delete Page2 #30

To catch you up I'm looking to get my car past the 400 rwhp mark and remain reliable. I'm thinking with everything below I'll most likely be just shy of the 400 mark but I can live with that.

So with my findings from this thread/additional reading I've altered plans somewhat. I have ordered all my parts and just went with a brand new ls6 intake because finding a used one was difficult.
SLP lid $90 shipped
LS2 timing chain ~$40
LS6 oil pump $110
Comp Trunion upgrade $140
eBay 1 3/4 headers, TSP ORY, Magnaflow, and 2 gm gaskets ~$820 With all the reading I did on 1 7/8 vs 1 3/4 headers I found just as many arguments for each side and with my modest horsepower goals 1 3/4 should be fine. I went back and forth on my header decision but since I decided to go with the more expensive cat-back I had to go the budget route on these, let's hope they install okay. As far as cat-back I wanted something that sounds good but is not obnoxiously loud thus my choice.
Texas Speed Camshaft Package w/ Single Beehive Valve Spring 228R cam 112 lsa 7.400 rods $610
Frost tune $200
LS6 intake $478 shipped

Welcome to the forum. Nice find man, car looks real clean!

First off I would look into getting a True Dual exhaust Im not saying the Y pipe isnt good but im just suggesting a True Dual system for those power goals.

As far as the intake goes your good with a FAST 92mm as you mentioned. Try to get it ported for better results!!

A 228r cam is a perfect choice IMO

Are you planning in spraying?

Original post #3 "I thought about true dual but the additional cost swayed me back to the y. I considered spray but don't want to swap out the pistons plus you are really hard pressed to get refills up in Montana."
Just picked this up the other day, I have an idea for what I want to do to it in my head. I'm looking for 400-450rwhp as a end result and rather than just buying random crap and bolting it on I want to ensure I buy the right stuff the first time around.

Status of the car, its a 6 speed with 104k on the odometer. It's all stock with the exception of a cat-back exhaust(not sure on brand) and a hurst shifter.

Here's the list I have for performance upgrades, I won't be purchasing all at once so can you confirm that I have everything in the right order.
Chris

1. Stainless long tube headers and a y pipe. ~$660
2. slp lid
3. fast 92 intake and TB
4 Heads and cam, this is where I need the most help but this is what I'm looking at right now tsp stage 1 heads with a 228r cam.
http://www.texas-speed.com/p-1160-pr...m-package.aspx

I'm thinking this with the addition of a tune should put me in the ballpark of what I'm looking for. Any areas that I could spend a little less money or other things I need to consider. Again I'm looking to buy once and not upgrade the same part multiple times.

I dont have much to add except that Ill be following this thread. I bought a set of those same heads with upgraded springs and 5 angle valve job off a member here. Also picked up a red LS6 intake here so Ill be interested to see what everyone has to say. My car is stock so maybe I can get some ideas also.

I considered the ls6 but I was unsure as to whether or not it would be enough to help me reach my goals.

Those heads and cam with a LS6 intake should get you past the 400 rwhp mark on most dynos...figure the Fast 92 might add 15-20 hp more on average

IMO dude do some research before you buy anything. check what other people are running with that cam and see what their #'s are. this site will help you a lot. it has for me on my build to make 450hp at the tire.

And also welcome to the forum. And its good to see a fellow Montanan on the site!!!!

Welcome...

Your list looks good to me, I would go with 1-7/8 for headers, keep the 92 on your list if you can afford it. For the heads I would talk to texas speed about having them milled some to give you a bump in compression with out any PtV clearance problems. I would also find out what catback is on the car, some of them could hold you back.

Add some Lifters, Trays, Ls2 timing chain, and a TSP ls6 oil pump to the list and you'll have a stout set up for sure.

Might as well do plugs/wires and an underdrive pulley while you have it all apart. And also look into the turition upgrade.

How much is going on/or are you purchasing at once. That would help with the inbetween stuff. Like motor mounts when doing Lts..and new plugs and wires...remove air/egr...how bout the catback....duals are best..Heads and Cam is a whole project and list on it's own. Budget??

Glad that you asked for the first round of upgrades I'm looking to keep it under 2k, I think my girlfriend would kill me otherwise. I already dropped 1.5k on fixing it from how I bought it used. So keeping budget in mind I think with all the other additional cost upgrades I think a used ls6 intake will have to be considered over a fast.
With that in mind I was thinking tsp 1 7/8 longtubes with the y ~$660, used ls6 ~$350, motor mounts ~$50, used slp lid ~$50. And I think that would be a decent stopping point.
Everything else should come in at around 2.5k I'm thinking. I may just do it all at once though. I need this car ready to go by the end of June I have a summer road trip to Florida with a few of my friends from across the country.

For your list...
New GM MLS header gaskets for you headers
If you go with a used ls6 intake replace the 8 " O " ring gaskets.
Go with Prothane Poly motor mounts, they are a nice part.

At first glance I would say Flowmaster, but I am not positive.

It looks like a Flowmaster muffler, but not too sure on the rest of the system.

Could even be a Random Tech, or Hooker aluminized system.

Your car looks nice man. If I were you i'd do gears and headers as one of my first mods just b/c they seem to yield some of the best results. After I did those I would probably go ahead and do a cam upgrade. My car cam and bolts on made 408 whp it was alot similar to the ms3 cam from tsp.
