2000 TA idler pulley issue
Ok....
so the idler pulley on the main drive belt was bad on my WS6. I ordered goodyear gatorback belts, and a good year pulley... put on the pulley and it hits the bracket...
Went to the local parts store and got the other pulley... that one hits as well...
I need a pulley that has about 4mm back spacing, and ive tried the first design, and second design pulley... any suggestions?

I fingered it out....
The part i needed was a "second design" pulley
The way to tell is depending on what color front dust shield you have on your pulley.
First design: Black dust shield. Gates #36625, Dayco #89059, AC Delco #12564401
Second design: Silver dust shield. Gates #38041, Dayco #89159, AC Delco #12563326
The difference is the "offset" if you will. The first design has roughly an 8mm offset, the second design is roughly 4.2mm offset. if you put a first design pulley on a second design bracket, it will hit the bracket behind it and cut into it. If you put a second design pulley on a first design bracket, the belt will hang about 2.5mm off the back of the pulley and shred the belt.
I hope this info helps others out!

So here's my question. I have an 02 and would assume I have the new idler bracket. But if someone replaced it with an older part, then well, all assumptions go out the window.
I picked up the Gates 38041 from NAPA today and it hits the back of the bracket. Classic old pulley new bracket problem.
Attached is a picture of the old pulley and the new Gates. Obviously, the offset is different. It looks like the Gates has a deeper offset - perhaps the 8mm as described above. But it has silver dust shields. The box had 38041 crossed out then another PN 38008 and then that was marked out and then 38041 was put back. Is it possible I just got the wrong idler?
I may go back and ask for both Gates PNs and see which one matches the OEM I took off. But if they don't have any more, I'd really only like to order one online.
Any help?
