Default Has this happened to any of you?

Took off from a light and then I heard what sounded like a knock. Was about to have a heart attack, then I popped the hood and this is what I saw.

They are 1 7/8 Kooks. The previous owner bought them used, so I don't think I have any chance of there being some sort of warranty available to me. I have patched the hole with a wrap from the local auto parts store. Looks like I'll be calling Kooks soon or maybe its an easy fix for someone that can weld?

Sorry man, not going to happen to me. That's why I bought stainless! Atleast it wasn't the motor!

Ditto, I would rather it be the headers than the engine!

Kooks headers are stainless. Looks like the emission fitting blew off.

I have had this happen to me on (2) headers from American Racing Headers. What happened to me was the block off plates used to seal them off were too thick and heavy and caused the harmonics from the exhaust vibrations to be all out of whack eventually causing it to get brittle and crack where the welds were on the primaries. Luckily, I called ARH and they were AWESOME and sent me (2) replacement headers FOR FREE. ARH FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Doesn't matter if they were stainless or not.

Happened to me with a set of headman headers. Ended up getting it covered under warranty. The welds around the emissions fitting failed. I thought about patching but to do it right I would have to take them off anyway and I was concerned about the metal in that area possibly being too thin anyway.

If I would have patched it I would have made a sleeve out of another piece of pipe rather than going through all the work and just pluging it only to see it fail again.

Best of luck but buying used you're probably right, you're boned. I highly doubt they'd stand behind it.

Well it was one set, or 2 individual headers. It wasn't ARH's fault. When I called and discussed the issue with them they pointed out that the culprits were the block off plates being too thick. I mentioned they were around 3/8" thick when they should have been 1/8" thick with a small gasket they said.

I am going to have it properly repaired. the wrap is just a temp fix so i could get it back home without it sounding like a Harley.

I understand. I was just throwing out my thoughts on how I was going to fix mine. I didn't think the wrap was a long term fix.

Just make sure the repair shop uses a 304 stainless patch, and welding rod.

This happens all the time to a lot of people. Doesn't matter the brand or type of header material. Just about everyone I know around where I am has had this issue at least once with all kinds of headers. If you have the emissions fittings on your headers, more than likely eventually this will happen. Patch it and move on.

Given that I'd never heard of this prior, I'm really glad I went with off-road headers!
