Default CA and GM Top Engine Cleaner?

Out here in California i am unable to get GM Top Engine Cleaner part #105002. They said that they have stopped making it for our state. I purchased part # 12346535 which is a small liquid bottle but its tiny!! Should i just use multiple bottles of it? I just finished installing an oil catch can and want to clean my motor out now. I would have a bottle shipped in but there is a $25.00 shipping fee becuase its hazardous. Anyone have any suggestions? Is this the same stuff just in a smaller bottle? Thanks

haha, the bottle is so small there is not even any instructions on it!!! i have no idea what to do with this stuff, thinking about just going back and getting the spray but i hear it does not work as well. I have been burning about a quart of oil every 3000 miles for 45,000 miles now so i want the best cleaner possible.

On my old Rx7 I'd pour some ATF in the engine while I cranked it a couple of times (more like bumped the starter) with the coil unplugged and let it sit for 24 hours or so to clean the crap out of the motor. That worked really well for carbon buildup. But, while it worked like a champ on my little 13B rotary, I don't know if it'd work on a *regular* engine...

Alot of the old school guys used ATF due to the detergents that are in it.I personally would just use one of the many over the counter fuel system/top end cleaners available.

GM top end cleaner from my experience is about the best stuff you can get.I personally would take a drive to a neighboring state and get some. You could always just use the stuff you have and see how it works. I can almost guarantee it won't work as well as standard Top End cleaners. The nasty chemicals CA doesn't want you having is what helps it clean so well.

If you don't want to do that you can try some SeaFoam. If you can't get ahold of that try some Techron in tank fuel system cleaner or Redlines Fuel System cleaner. You can get Redline from a few of the sponsors.

Hahahaha, Old School! I've been called a lot of things, but never that!

Lerajie, aside from "wow, your car could totally smoke mine," that's probably the coolest compliment this guy has gotten

I saw a tech at a dealer use the small bottles once. He poured 2 of them along with some gasoline into a cylinder tool that had a hose that connected to the fuel rail where the schrader valve is. He then hooked up the shops compressed air hose to the cylinder. He then started the car and opened the valve on the tool and the compressed air forced the cleaner into the fuel rail. He let the car idle until the cylinder was empty.
On a side note, I have 5 of the big cans sitting on a shelf I'll probably never use.
