Default Bolt ons opinions please!!!

Hey everyone. So I just got a 98 z28, and am looking forward to start some upgrades. I know a lot of you will suggest a cam/head upgrade but I'm looking at bolt ons for now. From the research I've been doing on here and from researching online I came up with this set-up.

AHR LT headers and catted Y-pipe.
Fast LSX intake manifold w/ EGR
SLP Loudmouth cb
SLP cai w/ SLP lid
Dyno tune

I was wondering what you guys think of the set-up and if there's other options to maximize performance. And also if a ported tb would be recommended. (Also the reason for the catted y and egr on the manifold is because I don't want the car throwing codes, and to pass NYS inspections) Thanks!!!

I have the stock t-56 6-speed. I don't even know where to start with upgrading that. From what I've heard people seem more concerned with the rear end falling apart though.

Also would 90mm be too big for just a bolt on setup?

youll make more power and itll help when you upgrade internally.

you might want to look into getting a stronger clutch if youre running a stock one.

Thanks for your help. I'm definitely gonna look into it. Any clutches you would recommend?

Good start. I'd get you a 25% underdrive pulley too. I've built all my cars bolt ons only and if done right they can be plenty fun and put down some good numbers. My old a4 ws6 made 345rwhp/353rwtq with full bolt ons only, and my m6 c5 makes 353rwhp/363rwtq with full bolt ons only. Instead of the SLP cold air most people would recommend going with the Fast Toys ram air or Chris 1313 type set up because it "scoops" up air from the bottom. I had the SLP ram air and sold it in favor for the FTRA.

I went through Tick Performance and bought the Monster Stage 2 clutch w/ 18lbs flywheel, Tick Master cylinder, new slave, ARP bolts, and speed bleeder and it is the absolute best thing I've ever put on my c5. It has never locked me out of gear and/or gotten mushy. It made driving the car so much more fun!

This is a very common statement. Says a lot about Tick and Monster...

You can have as much power as you want but the car will never be fun unless you have a clutch that actually functions right. I bleed my clutch every 2 weeks now (very excessive I know, but getting to the slave/clutch on a c5 is pricey and very involved!), and with my car only putting out 353rwhp, a clutch rated for 550rwhp should last me a very good while. It drives great on the street too! I've driven a few cars with ls7 clutches and I just wasn't very impressed, they work fine don't get me wrong, I just didn't like the pedal feel and how heavy they were. Even a Monster stage 1 clutch would work for a lot of people on here, I just went with the stage 2 because it was 50 more dollars and for having the same pedal feel as the stage 1, it holds 100rwhp more.

I'd ditch the CAI and add a torque arm and drag radials to the list.

How much did that set-up cost you if you dont mind me asking?

Also at what HP do you think I should consider saving up for a 12 bolt? I've heard that the rear ends on these cars are really fragile.

EDIT: I would think torque would actually be my question.

You should save up for a 12 bolt when your stock lol. The rears are hit and miss even on stock power just save up for one now and take your time. You can have fun on the street it isn't until you put a tire on it and start going to the track do they usually let go. Also a monster level 2 if bought on sale with a tick should be a little over $800 with shipping

Haha thanks for the advice.

I'm torn between CAI's. SLP, FTRA, and I found this SSRA browsing the forum. Anyone have any experience with that one?

I paid $1,100 for everything. Seems a lot at first but once you realize how great it is and how long it will probably last you it won't bother you. When I had my f-body I was an a4 so I didn't have as much worry about the rear end popping so I couldn't tell you lol
