Default Exhaust Question

Hey everyone. I'm looking at installing a Magnaflow catback and I just have a few questions on the installation. How easy is it to do at home and how long should it take? I'm replacing the stock flowmaster exhaust. I will also be doing headers a little later on and an electric cutout. Would it be worth it to do the cutout at the same time and save some trouble? Any and all opinions/ advice are welcome.

honestly if your going to do a cutout dont waste your money and buy a catback. once you get that cutout you will run with it open 98% of the time, and the 2% percent will be when you are driving through your neighborhood real late at night or theres cops out looking for a t/a lol. catbacks add no real HP to the car do not listen to the advertised 30-35hp incrase, its straight BS and if any catback ever added more than 5HP id be impressed. i paid good money for a borla system, after a year i swapped for a corsa, then a year later got a cutout and never ran my exhaust through the catback again. you will get addicted to how it sounds and youll never close it, just keep the stock catback and throw in a pair of LT's and cutout.

The factory catback is pretty terrible it's pretty easy to gain a solid 10whp froma good catback. With that said op if you like the magnaflow get it. It's a nice system and contrary to what people say unless you live out in the boonies a cut out is gonna get old to you and everyone else quick. Besides being loud as **** all the time it sounds like *** pretty much anywhere under wot

Installing a magnaflow catback is pretty self explanatory. assuming you dont need to modify anything with current ypipe and manifolds its about a 1.5 to 2 hr. install comfortably...then again nothing ever seems to go smoothy first time around..lol. The hardest part for me was fine tuning the fitment. If your set on doing a cutout then do it while the catback is off makes life easier.

+1 to what redbird said. These cars sound like dick with a cutout off the Y. I like my Magnaflow, I wish it was a bit louder but that's part of the reason I'm going to LT's in a few weeks anyways!

I did the install in my driveway, however I was replacing a Loudmouth system, so I can't comment on how hard it is to remove the factory system. I do know you'll most likely need to cut the I-pipe to remove it. I had to remove the spring and shock from my passenger side, and also drop the panhard bar, in order to get my SLP system out because the I-pipe was crushed together with a cheap clamp and I couldn't wiggle it out. You could probably do the same with the stock I-pipe??

Thanks for everyones imput so far. I think I will end up getting the catback and cutout together. I don't intend on keeping the cutout open all of the time but who knows. I still have a few more questions on this. Will the cat back fit onto the stock y pipe without any issues, and where should I put the cutout. I've heard putting it too far back isn't really worth it.

The I-pipe will slip on to the y-pipe and should do so without much fuss. Not sure about where to put the cutout though, someone else should be able to answer that.

people usually put the cutout where the rear seat hump in the floor is.

Ok before I order this stuff, I want to make sure I get the right size. The tubing size on the Magnaflow catback is 3", that should fit on no problem right? And im assuming a 3" cutout is what I need.

I would suggest the low profile cutout if you gonna do the electronic exhaust cutout..I leave mine open all the time...I have seen some with the cutout on bothsides of the y pipe on the bends...

How bad is the clearance? I was thinking of doing the QTP 3" electric cutout, but now im considering the low profile.

Even with the car lowered with eibach springs there is decent clearance but in a bumpy road idk...If I had known about the low profile cutout I would of gone with it instead...but either way the exhaust cutout sounds awesome!!!
