Default FAST intakes?

Hey everybody. I was wondering what the difference is in a fast 92mm intake vs the stock ls6 intake on the 01+ camaros. Is the stock ls6 intake good enough to handle a cam swap or should I see about getting the fast intake. At what hp does the ls6 intake become a problem Any help us greatly appreciated!

You'll gain power with a FAST but if you all ready have a LS6, a set of heads would be a better investment at this point IMO.

On a heads/cam car a fast swap over an ls6 is usually good for a soild 15 hp. Is it worth the money? Without one you are leaving power on the table so at the end of the day its up to you if you feel like dishing out 2 grand for everything needed to go with it.

For a 90/92mm:

If you keep an eye out you can get them for under $700 used (mine was under $500) and find a throttle body for $200-300 (mine was under $200). Gaskets are under $30. Injectors and rail swap over, MAP swaps over, and stock MAF is fine just need a coupling. Car has to be tuned for the cam anyway.

They're around $900 new...

Don't forget you can sell your ls6 intake for $350 or so to recoup some of that too.

Or keep the ls6...nothing wrong with that option for a cam only car at all.

You don't need new injectors/ rails for the fast 92 right?

You might need new injectors if your cam is anything more than mild... lol

With a cam swap only 10-15 hp over the LS6 is about right. Is it worth it?? Well...now that you know the hp per dollar, only you can answer that obviously

How dare you inject common sense into this argument.

it easy to skimp on things that are "only" 10-15hp gains. But in the end it ALL adds up. Not to mention you will most likely get heads in the future when you get bored of the power like most of us. Go FAST

No, the stock stuff fits perfect. If the car does not have proper ls6 coolant lines under it, you will need them because the Fast has more volume and the tricks to fit a ls1 tube under a ls6 intake won't fly without risking a vacuum leak.

I don't know what I'm doing different than everyone else on ls1tech but I've seen 3 different cam bolt on ls1s all with the 28# injectors and all 3 have maxed stock injectors (92%-105% duty cycle) once they were tuned, my old 230/224 low lift cam on stock 99 heads being one of them at 95% duty cycle.

How much the intake is worth really depends on the cam split, peak RPM, and how efficient the rest of the intake system is. You can easily log MAP readings versus ambient readings to see if there is a considerable restriction. The closer those 2 readings are at WOT, the less benefit you will get from the intake.

True. If I get a Fast it will be a ported 92/92. They have been fine for so long and even ported 90/90 intakes have reached 500rwhp. I just dont see the need to spend the extra money on parts for a 102.

a ls6 intake is good to about 440 rwhp.consider a bbk or weiand intake ,they flow a little more then a ls6 intake.you can find used bbk intakes for $300.

Not sure what you mean by "good to xxx hp". A fast intake will make more power than the ls6 on an ls1 whether it makes 320 or 460rwhp, just varies how much based on several factors.

IMO you should only say something is "good to xxx hp" if there is little to no gain to be had below that threshold (like a larger MAF sensor on a stock to cam only car).

The BBK is another good choice for a slight bump over the ls6. It's a good bargain if you don't mind the way it looks.
