Question about the kooks system, do they come with a muffler or is it going to be straight pipe?
There are mufflers right before the tips but they're pretty much straight through, don't think they will do all that much. I agree with you that breaks are important...kept me from ******* things up.

I also have a lowered TA. So clearance was always a concern of mine. Hope you keep us posted because this will be very helpful to me. My car is lowered enough that once the front end is on jack stands I gotta put my jack under the car and jack up the rear from the axle. Had to buy a really low profile jack with an extended base.

Really looking forward to your finished project and or the bumps in the road.

I'm kind of in the same boat, jacking up my car is about a 3-stage process. So far the worse thing has been motor mounts, specifically getting the bolts out on the driver's side. Lots of PB blaster and torch heat to get those bitches loose. Also, Kooks headers are awesome, they fit like a glove, I've heard issues with the TSP headers not fitting that well. I highly recommend this walk-through, it is excellent and should be a sticky:

I'll snap some pictures once I get the dual exhaust installed, right now I have the front up on ramps.

Okay, so it's finally on! I've been down with a bad cold the past few days but today I finally felt well enough to put the exhaust on. Took me about 6 hours but it's still not 100% right I don't think, it definitely needs some fine tuning. This is the first time I've ever worked on an exhaust so I didn't really know what I was doing.

I've got two issues right now I'm trying to resolve. If someone has this exhaust can they please help me out?
  • Driveshaft safety loop -My exhaust is currently laying against the bottom of the loop, what is the best way of getting the x-pipe closer to the body?
  • Tips - What is the best point of adjustment for the tips? I've tried sliding the rubber hangers along the brackets but doesn't seem to help enough. They're currently rubbing my bumper very slightly.

Also...are there any areas I should really check closely for clearance? I know there is either a bundle of fuel or brake lines on the driver's side over the pipe before the X...I put some protective tape around those lines; there was not much clearance there. I may end up taking it to a professional to get it 100% right but I want to make sure it's safe to drive first.

Anyway....to the good stuff! Here is a video of the new exhaust, I'll get a better drive-by video tomorrow. I'll also get some ground clearance and other pictures once I get it off the rear ramps.

Enjoy!

I know years ago when I had tsp TDs I flipped the fuel line bracket and it gave me more breathing room for the fuel lines. DS loop I never had so cant comment sorry. Congrats though sounds good. Satisfying to finish these projects.

congrats on finally getting it done. As stated before I also have a lowered TA. Any chance you could measure how high your side skirt is from the ground? and the distance between your exhaust piping and the ground. This is a set up I want to use. Just want to know if im going to have to raise my car or not.

I am considering raising my car back up due to the lack of clearance. I've already scraped a few times coming out of my driveway since it's uneven gravel. I took some measurements and the lowest point is right after the X-Pipe before the pipes go over the axle. I'm seeing about 3" of clearance right before the axle and that's using Strano springs. As for my side skirts, I have 6" before the rear tire and after the front. At the header collectors I was seeing about 3-1/2" to 4" of clearance. Also, the un-catted exhaust gases smell horrible...I think I would have went catted if I were to do it again. The exhaust is LOUD, it attracts a lot of attention and there is a lot of drone at lower RPMs. Here is a pic of where the pipes go over the PHB Support, were talking less than 1/2" of clearance:

Please let me know if you have anymore questions, I'd be happy to help out anyway I can.

Mine is fairly low around the X pipe and right before it goes over the axle as well.

It looks awesome.

I dont think enough people on here have run this exhaust, but it is very loud without cats. I would say on par with my LTs/ORY/Loudmouth 2 setup which I loved. It is very loud and drones pretty bad at some RPMs. But with the windows down, on a nice day, you wont care about drone.

Congrats on the install, always nice to DIY.

Also, the exhaust may smell especially bad inside your garage and with the exhaust being brand new. Warm it up, outside the garage and the smell is completely tolerable.

Have you had any issues around the fuel tank with the stock heat shields? I haven't noticed any problems yet but I don't wanna melt my gas tank. I think the hangers help to maintain a decent distance.

Yea,
I had this setup on my car for about a week. Very nice fit and finish. Fit like a glove. But maybe I am old, but it was just way too loud. I am sure with my 441 it would be even louder than it was with my old 402. I looked into putting different mufflers on, but decided to sell the system complete and went to a magnaflow. Magnaflow on stock engine was just way too quiet, but on the bigger cubes it sounds amazing.

Damn, was the pipe laying against the tank or was that just dissipation of heat through air?

I've got the stock heat shield on so I can't tell by looking. There is no direct contact between the pipe and shield but ill probably partially drop the pipes and shield to check tomorrow. I'm guessing your tank melted around where the pipes are coming over the axle? Is that tape working okay for you?

The reason for my tank issue was attributed the system hitting the forward side of my fab9. When the suspension was loaded it drove the pipes into the tank. Of course everything looked ok when it was installed on the hoist and only noticed the "melt" when we lifted it again. Thankfully....

Tape and insullation are working great and is now just a precaution. I made SEVERAL dimensional adjustments to the pipes forward of the axle to avoid similar interferences.

Using band clamps that came with the kit for now. I can't find an exhaust shop around here willing to touch my car. It's too low to make it up the ramps onto their lift. I'll have to find a decent shop with a post lift I guess. I've gotten a lot of compliments and thumbs up with the exhaust already though I just keep the RPMs low around the police.

On another note, pretty sure I'm gonna raise my car back up. The scraping makes me wanna throw up everytime it happens.
