Default AC Delete Questions

I have nearly all of my interior out of the car right now since I'm installing sound deadener and thought I might as well take out the AC. Living in the Northwest, it's a pretty big occasion when the temperature hits triple digits. I do daily drive my car but I bought my car this year in late July and haven't used the AC once. If it's hot, I have T-Tops out

So since I don't use it, it's basically dead weight cluttering up my engine bay. I was wondering how hard it would be to take it out. I've seen some guides but all of them did it with the motor out. Is this possible to do without pulling the motor? I STILL WANT TO KEEP MY HEATER.

If you want to keep your heater then I think you should leave your under-dash ducting in-place and just remove the stuff under the hood.

I did it with the engine still in place... You WILL need to pull the front bumper off, though.

I removed all my A/C and kept the heater. You will have to cut the box that sticks through the fire wall because of the fan and heater core mounting. Here's some pic's of how I did this...

Here is what you have to cut and seal to the block off plate.

I used weather stipping from home depot to seal the heater box to my UMI block off plate.

Drilled out block off plate for heater core pipes

Going back together...

Done, with my vacuume manifold in all my new space, changing #6 and #8 spark plug is going to be a breeze now.

Theres no need to pull the bumper off to pull the ac. I pulled mine out in about half an hour. Get all the freon taken out of the system and disconnect all the hoses, unbolt compressor and pull the condenser out. To get the big box out you need to take your dash apart.

X2 ^^^

No need to pull the bumper to get the any of the A/C out, and the box comes through the inside of the car. As far the A/C box and block off plate it can be done with engine in the car, it's just easier with the motor out.

I did the same thing as conan but I just made my own plate. I didn't need the box so I just bashed it out with a hammer then trimmed the edges so I could make the plate sit flush and seal.

Can the box in the engine compartment be removed and coverd with a block off plate without removing everything in the dash?

Yep. I did mine that way except the engine was out of the car.
