Default under drive pulleys

I was just curious to who is using under drive pulleys? do you like them? what brand? could you tell any difference in track times? I used them a lot years ago when I ran fox body mustangs and have read several articles in the mustang magazines with dyno numbers to show the results. I'm just curious about the use of them for the f-bodys to see if it was worth the time and money.

Good thread starter bri. I want to know also. Most guys I talk to go with powerbond but I see ati looks to be the best due to its price.

I have personally ran and installed so many I cannot count really. Powerbond is the best bang for the buck. We have them ready to go for any of the LS accy applications. Fbody/GTO, Truck/Gen5 camaro, Vette/CTS-V/G8 and even the LS7s.
For the money you spend and the power you get and reliability, its a no brainer. $200 for 7-10 hp seems pretty good to me, and again the reliability is alot better than gm.

I installed a BBK, it was cheap and had a buddy that owns a shop put it on my A4 LS1. No way I could have done it on my own, I tried but needed a lift to get under it good, and air tools to get it off and on. BBK instructions said to use existing belts, well it took 2 seconds to figure out that wasn't going to work. Ended up using a 76" (p/n. 760K6) and 37" (p/n. 370K4) from Auto Zone or OReilly's, can't remember.

Oh yea, I wanted to add, when we removed the original pulley, it had a big hunk of the flange missing, like a rock or debris flew under car and damaged the hell out of original, so I was pretty happy I went with the reduced pulley since it needed to be replaced anyway

The vettes are bad about them separating, but hey have odd issues quite a bit. I have seen a few fail on the fbodies, but that is it. Quite a few get damaged from debris and you never realize it until you either start eating belts or do a cam swap.
If you have ever done one, then doing another is a piece of cake. Rule of thumb is to always use a new crank bolt, be it stock or ARP style.

Have been running a powerbond for 6 years now.
Never had an issue with charging the battery or anything else.
Do it.

I'm thinking about adding a pulley also. Need to squeeze every HP I can out of this motor.

I've read a lot of the old threads on underdrive pulleys and it seems like most people recommend them yet some have had issues or failures.

I'm getting my headers, ory, and tune in the next few weeks and I'm considering getting a underdrive pulley also

An underdrive will have almost zero effect on tune so there is no rush to get one before your tuned up.

That being said the ATI's are always a good way to go. They are more expensive but that's because it is a true harmonic balancer just like the Innovators West pulleys. I am going procharged so I need a good strong pulley I just have not decided which way I'm going. The ATi is a little cheaper than the IW stuff. Converting so 8 rip is spendy.

Define a "true" harmonic balancer.
The ASP is an issue because it uses an alum hub and they are poor quality. Quite a few bought cheap ones and they were one solid piece. Def no good. I have had zero problems with the PB I have installed and not heard of any of them failing. I have had problems with other companies, but I am not here to run them through the mill.

Mine came with an ATI when I bought the car, but i've installed them on a few Mustangs on the past, and there was a slight difference in my findings

The amount of bs all alum pullies for the mod motors is ridiculous. But they are def not worth as much power gain on them as they are on the ls cars. Even the sbc and lt1s dont gain as much really.

So you're saying the LS motors respond better than the others to this mod? It actually made a measurable difference on my 04 gt. Before the swap my brother and I were practically dead even in his 06 gt, and after the UDP swap I would consistantly pull him ever so slightly. We did several runs to confirm

I slapped one on when I did my H/C, it's off already so why not. I used an SLP which I'm told is a reboxed powerbond. No issues 3 years later.

I have one sitting in my room. I plan on installing it in my garage on my day off. I hope it makes up for the power I am about to lose when I install a 9" rear. lol

I've had a March on mine since about 2006. I've never had an issue with it. I can't say I noticed any difference vs stock.

I installed mine today in two hours. Pretty easy if you have a lift. To be honest I really cant tell a difference.
