Default Removed Cats = Rough Idle.

Hey guys/gals..
Removed my cats last week. Now the car idle's rough, and acts like its wanting to die. Whats up with that? I bought 02 sims, and i looked underneath while taking off my cutout, and i saw that one of the plugs was hanging down, so i am thinking that i lost a 02 sim. Could this be the reason of the rough idle? thanks in advance.

Probably not. Even without simms period, the car should still idle fine. It will set an SES light though.

Did you unplug the wrong O2 sensors?

I didn't do it , i had a muffler shop do it for me.. Im going to jack it up this afternoon when i get home, and look underneath... Anything i should look for?
is there a way i could make it idle higher? its idleing rough because it idles soo low, like under 500 RPM's...

Removing cats also relieves backpressure and may
change the VE of the motor, areas of operation where
VE is a factor (like idle) may want that tweaked up.
Just like headers folks have to, often.

The O2 sims will not cause the car to idle rough. There are ways manually to up the idle but I wouldnt do that yet. Might want to get the car looked at on a scanner and see whats going on. Your VE could be messed up now in the lower areas of the RPM range. Also give the computer a week and see if it works itself out.

OK, i had the guy that did my cats run a scan on my car... He says I have a misfire in cylinder 2, thats more than likely why i have a rough idle, almost dying. What to do now? I am going to take it back today and let the diagnostics guy look @ it, and see what he tells me. Anyone ever have this problem? I hope its just a fouled plug.

Yeah I would check the spark plugs and wires. Start with the easy stuff first. Make sure the wire is Completley on the plug, take it off and put it back on, make sure you here it "snap". If that doesnt work check the plug and make sure its not broken on the tip. If its not then pull the plug and see if its fouled out. If thats not it you might have a bad wire. Thats the basic things to go through, more then likely its one of the above.

okay, i had the mechanic run a scan on it again, and he said that my front passenger side o2 sensor is bad. It was reading around 60-80, and he said that it should read around 400. So he said its running really rich, and burning much more gas than it should be.. The exhaust guy was there too, and he has an o2 off a vette, he said he thinks it'll work, and he's gonna throw it on for me tomorrow, for free.. then if that doesnt work, i need to get a tune up. But if it does I'll probably replace the plugs and wires anyways.
