Default really confused????

Ive been looking at Heads Cam and Intake packages for my car to be installed before this june.

my body guy, friend of the family since parents were in highschool.

I asked him about the install, labor and all that other fun stuff. He claimed that to install this on the ls1 you have to pretty much drop the "frame" with the engine and trans out from "under" the car. He claimed that its a hassle and everything.

long story short he said to do all that it be 5,000$ ???????????????

He builds his own cars one runs 10 secs. the other runs 9 sec. so he is knowledgeable and knows what to do.

Is it really this much and hard to install H C I

You can do a heads/cam build with the engine still in the car..

Check the internal section here and read of the many H/C builds.. %90 of them are done to engines still in the car..

If he is very knowledgeable he clearly had never worked on a Fbody before. you do not need to drop the engine to do a top end build it can all be done in car with removing the radiator to get the cam out.

this is about as far as the car needs to be taken apart to do a cam swap. minus removing the cam retainer plate and upper timing sprocket.

They are not a bitch to work on at all if you know what you are doing, yes there are some tight spaces due to the engine being halfway in the firewall, but other than that pretty straightforward.

to be honest the biggest PITA is changing the valvesprings with the heads in the car. butif youre swapping heads than thats irrelevant.

I have a lift so I dropped mine out the bottom.

6 bolts for the k-member, 6 for the struts, 4 for the trans cross member, some connectors and other stuff. Took about 2 hours, this was my first time.

If he wants that much it's because he doesn't want to do it. If he isn't into doing the job you don't want him working on the car.

If you can't do it yourself check with members in you local area for suggestions.

Good luck.

You should still buy pants with no pockets for the cool factor!

Just get a good torque wrench, borrow a socket set and follow the ls1howto.com walk through, minus the way they tell you to install the harmonic balancer and you'll be good to go..

yea i asked my parents why it was that much and my dad said if he doesnt want to do the job he will jack the price up way high so if he does it he gets PAID. glad he didnt do that for my gears. Installed .373 for 100$ and havent had any problems

once the intake and coil packs are off they're actually quite easy to work on, IMO.

it's just nuts and bolts. typically the hardest thing about a cam swap is setting the rockers. but if you keep the stockers all you have to do is torque them down.
