Default Which exhaust for Firehawk?

Hey guys, Im thinking about changing the exhaust on my Firehawk. Right now the muffler was taken off and just some pipe with a 3" exhaust tip is dumped under the car. I bought the car without the firehawk muffler and tips.

I want to actually run the exhaust out the back with tips. I have 2 options that I am thinking about. First off, i have the stock exhaust from a ws6 that I could install and just have some nice tips added on instead of the oval ones on it. If I go this route I am going to have an electric cutout installed now in the stock i-pipe.

Another option I was thinking about is to have a 3" i pipe installed with a reducer to fit into the stock y pipe. with 3 inch piping going into a flowmaster super 44 muffler with 2.5" dual outlets. Have one of the pipes ran around the back of the muffler. If I go this route I wont have any cutouts installed at this time. Ill wait until I get my headers and get a better y pipe made.

As far as tips go.. Im really thinking about getting some basic chrome 3" slash cut tips. Anyone run these on a trans am? I like the corsa tips, but everyone runs them. These are the type of tip i was thinking about running. Any opinions guys?

You'll get some mixed opinions on Flowmaster mufflers. I don't hate them, but I would run Magnaflow, Borla, Dynomax, or any other straight through style muffler over chambered.

As for tips, other than Corsa style, I've always been a fan of Mecham oval tips.

Single slash cut look okay. Kind of bland in my opinion.

Those tips look pretty bland I agree. I wonder if they would look better with say 4" tips? The ones on the black trans am look like they are maybe 2.5" tips.

There are so many options when it comes to exhaust tips. I'd take the car to an exhaust shop that stocks a variety of tips, and just hold a few up to the rear of the car and see what you think.

I'd get dual tips. Singles don't fill the exhaust region of the trans am bumper very well.

Flowmasters don't flow well at all - they have been proven to flow the worst time and time again. A better alternative to that may be a texas speed setup. Have you checked ls1sounds.com and youtube?

I went to a couple exhaust shops around where I live with no luck.. both refused to do exhaust on my car. They would only install the flowmaster that was designed for my car (the 80 series for fbodies). Not to mention they wanted an arm and a leg to do that. Ill have to check out some other ones I suppose.

I have read that a few people have actually got dual exhaust dumped at the rear axle, for a little over $400 and thats with 2 mufflers! They want to charge me that just to weld on the 80 series muffler.

It's been a while, but I believe installing my loudmouth 1 catback cost me about $100 at a shop and that included welding on different exhaust tips. That price is way too high.

That price is insane. An "exhaust shop" claiming they can't do anything other than a basic muffler swap is cause for concern.

My advice: find a new exhaust shop. One competent enough to handle more than just cutting off your stock muffler and welding in a Flowmaster.

Personally I'd go with an actual Corsa Exhaust if you're stuck on having tips. Lifetime warranty, flow great, best tips, and noise cancelling technology so no drone.

Corsa is great but I wouldn't dare pay 1000 for it cause after all its still requires a y pipe which would run roughly 300 bucks.... just my 2 cents

I would. I have 2 of them. One on a Corvette and one on an Escalade. You're going to have to pay for quality, craftsmanship, and a warranty.

That being said, you can always scrounge the classifieds or craigslist. I've seen them go as low as 400 before.

I bought a used SLP loudmouth on craigslist today. Has anyone ever welded in a single chamber flowmaster where the slp resonator is?

If you're going to replace the resonator in a Loudmouth, I'd go with a long Dynomax Race bullet or something similar. Dynomax Ultra Flo Round, Magnaflow Magnapack or Glasspack, Borla XR-1.

Something like this:

I had a Super 44 on my '98, it sounded stock. I've always been partial to the GMMG and that's what I bought for it, it was louder than stock with the factory manifolds and cats and will still sound good when I put the LTs and off road y on it. Madhammer is who made them for GMMG and is still making them, took me less than a week to get it after the order.
