Default LS1 intake..is mine junk?

Trying to troubleshoot some kind of idle problem/vacuum leak. I decided to take the intake of my car and see if the map sensor was as loose as it felt.

I found this:

Sooooo....is this thing junk? I knew it was ported by the previous owner but I guess I never really thought they would have cut the bottom out and glued it back together.

I would never trust that, looks like a perfect time to upgrade to a ls6 intake

I have to agree with the above comments. Wow I would be looking for a ls6 intake and never put that abomination back on. In fact I would put it in a barrel and burn it with gas a lot of gas.

Cut it back out and save that MAP port. You can then score a cheap LS6 intake with a busted MAP port. Cut the busted MAP port apart to safely remove it from the LS6 intake and then pop in your good one. Might save you a few bucks but yeah that intake you have should be tossed out.

Good point!
Probably the only thing you could possibly salvage from it!

The stuff people do and then even think it's acceptable never ceases to amaze me!

That intake is JUNK!
If you don't mind running a aluminum intake manifold then also consider a BBK SSI intake manifold, since a used one will normally run less the a used LS6, and the same with comparing new/new.

Actually, someone may buy it, to use for mock up or to practice porting.

OP, if you want to keep it, gring some of the filler down so you can find the leak & re-seal it with a marine grade epoxy like splash zone. That intake is repairable if you choose to keep it.

Sadly I dont have the name of the person. I know they used a lot of information from this site years and years ago to do this. Most of the modifications were done in 2000-2001 from what I have been able to tell. It came with lots of documentation.

That being said, its been working reasonable well for a long time it looks like. some how.

Anyone got a intake for me? lol

Here's the lowest price I could find on a new BBK intake manifold.

If you want it in the new black finish:

After looking into it more it appears they used JB Weld of some kind for the first "seal" then went over everything with the orange/red gasket material from Permatex. Hooked a leaf blower up to the font of the intake, couldnt feel any leaks.

Im going to try using it for the rest of the season and then try to get a FAST when my motor is rebuilt/cam this winter.
