Stock exhaust mod I was looking to improve the stock exhaust on my otherwise stock 1998 TA. I took a hack saw and cut off the stock muffler. It didn't sound bad at all but it lost a lot of get up and go. I then reset the computer thinking that might help but it didn't do much of anything. I know people go back and forth about back pressure so I just chalked it up to that. I then went to mod the muffler. I took a cutoff blade and made a large hole in the outer metal.
I cut a smaller hole into the inner metal plate.
There are two perforated tubes inside that the exhaust must go throw before leaving the tail pipe.
I used the cut off wheel and removed those.
They are about 50 small holes in one and about 70 in the other.
Welded it all back up and reinstalled.
The results are not as I had wanted. I noticed no extra power. I can hear a little bit of a louder exhaust but not much. It isn't worth the time in my opinion. Very little results.

Yours is the second example I've seen where somebody has cut up the stock muffler. It's incredible how restrictive that thing is. I agree with those who posted above, get Magnaflow or Hooker and call it good. I do applaud your ingenuity, though!
I just have a cat delete on my car, with a cutout and the stock exhaust.
Loud when I want to play just remove the cutout, quiet when I just wanna be well quiet, but still has a nice tone.

The results are not as I had wanted.
Only thing mufflers do is muffle sound, and without replacing it or literally cutting holes in it you're not going to notice much of a difference in sound. And certainly nothing power wise.

Just trying something different. I really thought it would have made it louder. I ran it 2 days with no exhaust and liked the sound but the drone in the car wasn't what I wanted. I did have the exhaust pipe stopped under the car so if I ran it out the back it might not be a problem. I will someday like to put headers a nice y-pipe and a Spintech muffler.

Imo, cut both of the tail pipes off the factory muffler just a little bit closer then where you cut the inlet pipe off, the get yourself a Hooker Aero Chamber muffler #21729HKR and have it welded in, in place of you factory muffler. it'll have good flow and good sound!
