Default Restrictor plates necessary with kooks ??

Anybody know if the restrictor plate mod is necessary with kooks long tubes. I removed the tube to see if I could fabricate something and noticed the kooks air tube is pretty small ( cant get my pinkie finger in there ). Is it just some headers that need these plates ??

The hole on the restrictor plate is much smaller. You will need them if you continue to use the AIR System.

Here's the link to the writeup for the restrictor plates. I haven't had them on mine for about two thousand miles, and I've had no problems with my AIR valves.

Here is where my confusion comes in. If you are keeping your AIR system, do you still need restrictor plates? I have been told you don't, and I have been told you do, which one is it?

The purpose of the pump is to inject fresh air into the exhaust, which help the cats reach operating temperature quicker. You won't kill the cats without the AIR system, but the AIR system theoretically should have slight positive effect on cat life. How much, I don't know, but I think it would only be a small difference.

The restrictor plates are a funny thing. Some people need them and some do not. It seems to be related to what type of headers you have. I see more people with shorties or mids needing them than those with long tubes. You can always run without the restrictors to see if you develop problems. If your check valves begin to flutter, then you need the restrictor plates (and new check valves!). With the amount of people pulling their AIR system, you could pick some up pretty cheap.
