Not sure what this is??

So I picked up a new Griffin 'Direct Fit' radiator for the turbo build on my '99 TA, however as I'm looking it over I notice this opening which I don't seem to have on my '00 WS6:

I guess the questions are, 1- what is that slotted opening for, and 2- how am I plugging that up? This is especially frustrating since I specifically chose an M6 option and I still end up having to plug an opening for a trans cooler

I believe that is for a coolant level sensor that would illuminate an idiot light on the dash of some early F-body vehicles. I think it was dropped later. Search around for "ls1 coolant sensor."

Most radiators come with a dummy plug for that. It has nothing to do with auto or m6. Trans coolers in the radiator don't even need to be blocked off. They are heat exchangers.

Got to AutoZone or similar and have them pull a sensor for 98 or 99-ish LS1 and have them give you a plug to match. Or take you rad into Home Depot and find a plug to fit..be sure to take it by the returns desk for a laugh in the way in the store.

Or if the ~$15 doesn't bother you, buy a cheapie sensor and use that as the plug.

All LT1 and LS1 Firebirds and Camaros had a coolant level sensor in the right radiator tank. Your 2000 WS6 has it-or at least the wiring & plug for it.

I plugged mine in my BeCool. It's an LT1 relic and was used on 98 LS1s. They just make the radiator for 93-02 and don't bother to include the block off plugs. There are two required. One on the left side as well above the Petcock for the heater core. I just went and got brass NPT plugs and sealed it up with a little teflon tape on there. Doesn't leak and cost like $4 total.
