Default Quietest Cat Back for LS1 Camaro

What is the quietest cat back for an LS1 Camaro. I'd like the SLP dual dual but they no longer make it unfortunately.

Why not just keep it stock then, or just have a muffler welded in place of the stocker?

I don't have a stock exhaust system at this point and I need a 3" I pipe at a minimum. I have kooks true duals with cats and it sounded like an open cut out and terrible drone out of the box. I changed to flowmaster hush power mufflers and added resonators, drone is decent now, but it is still way too loud to drive daily.

I have the Borla adjustable cat back. With the solid plate it is quiet as can be. Even with a cam. Expensive tho.

You might find someone interested in swapping the Kooks
setup for their SLP_D/D. All of the factory I-pipes are a
rough 3" diameter (though my CME I-pipe bulges out aft
of the front clamp, a bit). I'd float the idea in the parts
section, you never know.

I put some flow master hushpowers in place of the bullets, very quiet in comparison. I am also thinking about putting a resonator inline somewhere. Problems with the kooks is the way they are bent you pretty much need something the same size as their bullets

Other than the base SS/WS6 catback, I would say SLP dual/dual is the quietest catback for these cars. Magnaflow is not that loud either but I think it is still louder than the dual/dual.

Thanks for the feedback. I am going to try the magnaflow. I'll probably put a high flow resonator in the I pipe. I will be on the look out for a dual dual muffler that I could use in place of the magna flow if it's still too loud. I know this will hurt power over my kooks setup, but given how I want to use the car I just cannot have it sound like a race car.

The Magnaflow muffler will definitely quiet things down and the resonator in the i-pipe idea would work to quiet it down even more (if that's what you need).

SLP dual/dual is still considerable louder than a stock catback IMO. I think it sounds just right. People do sell them on here every now and then... just have to check the classifieds. I've even seen them on eBay.

Magnaflow with cats will almost sound stock. The idle will sound a tad deeper, but that's the quietest aftermarket muffler I've heard in person.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I was solely focused on making the kooks system quiet that I hadn't considered going with a stock style system. While this did neck my system down to a single 3" I pipe, I don't feel it has any less power than when I had dynatech cones welded into the resonators and had the dual 3". Anyway this system finally quieted this beast down so I can finally put some miles on it. No more drone and no more exhaust vibration. Definitely a good amount louder than stock, but 2-3 times quieter than the kooks true duals with quiet flows and resonators. I like the look much better too.

Here is the motor specs for those interested.

new alum 4.125" bore LS7 block resleeved by R.E.D. (Steve Demirjin), billet main caps, ARP main studs, rebushed titanium LS7 rods, Katech A1 rod bolts, Autotec lightweight race pistons, Total seal Rings, Eagle 4.1" crank set up for wet sump factory style pump setup. 11.5:1 compression, WCCH LS7 heads, cleaned up ports, Brian Tooley racing springs/titanium retainers, new guides, s/s exh valves, titanium intake valves, performance VJ. LS7 intake, LS7 fuel rail, LS9 injectors, hydraulic roller cam (238/248 duration, .652" lift) spec'd for me by Brian Tooley. LS7 lifters, Brian Tooley pushrods, ARP head bolts, MLS gaskets, LS7 rocker arms with Comp Cams trunion bearing rebuild kit, Melling oil pump, billet Katech tchain.

It is an illusion that the car looks like it is about to fall off the lift.

So you are now running an x-pipe into a y-pipe?

Yes, because where I put the y pipe is the only place the pipes are paralle in the kooks system. Given the way the kooks x- pipe is designed I don't think it hurts anything, I couldn't see spending more money and time trying to get rid of the x. I don't have access to a shop that can do mandrel bends without driving 3-4 hours. The entire goal of this was to make the car streetable.

I had flowmaster hush powers in place of the bullets and for my motor they were barely quieter than the kooks bullets. This magnaflow cat back setup I have now is finally quiet enough, sill significantly louder than stock. The best part is no drone or exhaust vibrations.
