And I'm not sure where CarQuest is gonna OEM their filters now. If you want a Wix, it's probably best to get an actual Wix.

Compared to other synthetics I've used over the years (Mobil 1, GC, RP, Pennzoil Platinum, Redline and Amsoil) Pennzoil Ultra no doubt my favorite. And yes that's compared to Redline which was my go to oil for a longtime and Amsoil which I've ran a few times. Ultra is great stuff. That said other than RP I ran all these in a Terminator and Lightning so Ford Modulars and not LS. When I bought my LS1 in December I thought I'd try RP. My next oil change will be Mobil 1 as Costco's had a good deal on it last time I was there, but I think after that I'll switch my Camaro to my go to Pennzoil Ultra. My 03 Lightning runs about like new on it with almost 170k on the odometer.

The Penzoil Ultra is highly rated. If I couldn't get the German made Castrol, Ultra would be my off the shelf oil.

I'll say at Walmart they do have the best price on German Castrol 0W-40. While you're there, the best filter they carry is the Fram Ultra which is a high end synthetic filter, certainly better than the Purolator Classic.
I actually just grabbed 3 jugs of the 0W-40 GC ($22.97) and 2 Fram Ultra filters ($8.xx) from Wal-Mart. I didn't see any single quarts so I had to get the 3rd jug and will have a few quarts on the shelf. Glad you guys bumped this cuz it was perfect timing for my build

Aww thanks! BUT I just separate the myths and rumors from facts and known information. I've done some testing of oil filters on my own but nothing scientific.

I do lurk quite a bit over at bob is the oil guy forums.

Most synthetic oils on the market today will well serve 80% of users and staying away from cheapo oil filters and having proper oil change intervals go a long way to keep engines happy.

Could you please explain why you'd recommend Penzoil Ultra over other oils?

Many good things have been posted over at BITOG and it's made from natural gas. Also, my personal preference, I trust the Penzoil brand of lubricants.

Can't beat $24 for 5qt of the 0-40 mobil 1 at wally world. The pennzoil ultra is good too, but usually $5 more a jug

I briefly skimmed some of the threads at BITOG and I see that someone from Penzoil is an administrator? All of the stickied threads have Penzoil as the main heading and I was wondering if you found this to be a conflict of interest when comparing other oil brands.

Personal preference and trust is anecdotal; What does the oil analyses say? And why should we trust any of the information from BITOG?

Very good questions.

There are a lot of really **** people (about their oil & filters) over there. Post the slightest thing that's not exactly right and everybody jumps on you. When I post, which is rare, I do so very carefully.

If Penzoil is a sponsor, I'm certain if they post anything out of line, they'd be smacked down pretty quickly.

Regular Pennzoil for years was a mediocre oil, at best. Their Pennzoil Platinum and subsequent flavors have all gotten very good reviews, and more importantly, test results. I use RP because I can get it off the shelf. If I had my d'ruthers, I'd go Amsoil but for some reason I find it tough to order engine oil. No problems ordering ATF though.

Anyone ever try running Motul oil in a LS motor? I've never ran Motul in any of my cars or trucks, but I have used Motul pre-mix in my 2-smoke dirt bikes before. I think Motul is a French company.

It seems like not a lot of people run or even know about Motul but the ones who do have a lot of praise for it as a high quality full synthetic.

You guys running 10w30 edge? I had no luck with rotella in my truck (99 1500 lm7) with noise. I tried the edge 10w30 in the black jug (full synthetic) and my noises didn't get any better.

I don't really CARE what weight it is, if it says "made in Germany" on the back of it, I'm using it. Originally 0W30, currently 0W40.
