Since German Castrol is gone.... (IT'S NOT!!)
Pennzoil starts with Pennsylvania crude - a dino oil. Nothing synthetic about it. Then it's refined enough to meet certain performance characteristics so that the FTC will allow it to be called "Synthetic". A legal trick of marketing, and nothing more. (IMO).
First Methane gas goes under a process called Gasification where it reacts with pure oxygen to produce what is called synthesis gas. It then under goes synthesis in a reactor where it is converted to a liquid called syncrude. then that under goes Hydrocracking where the molecules are broken down to form new ones which are then distilled. This is where the name PurePlus Base oil or GTL(gas to liquid) comes from.
Ive used nothing but Pennzoil and never have had an issue. Hennessey uses it so it must be good. The Venom GT is the worlds fastest 2 seat sports car and they filled it with Pennzoil Synthetic
Also I'm about to wrap up a H/C swap soon and was wondering what a decent oil for "break in" would be. I've read you want to use dino oil, but what brand and weight?

In all seriousness, the Castrol Edge w/ titanium (gold bottle) is more than sufficient for a bad *** heads and cam car. Trust me. Couple it with a great oil filter and reap the rewards of power along with protection. Oh, and guess what? You can buy it at Walmart... Everyone has one. No scrounging around for euro this and euro that.
This is strictly for regular use oil. I can't help you with break in oil.
Buy 2 jugs and you get 10 qts. Do one oil change at 6 qts and save the rest for the next few oil changes. Much cheaper than picking up an additional single qt each time since they run $7-8 each.
Gonna have to try Pep Boys and Autozone. Ive never seen an O'Riellys, dont think they made it to CT yet.

As for a filter what is your opinion? I got a Wix, from what I've read it is a pretty decent filter. Seems like that or Delco, K&N seem to be the favorites.
I religiously run the Wix filters in all my vehicles. For the Camaro (FBody) I ran the 51522, always filled BEFORE installation. It's a bit longer and holds about a cup and a half more oil.
More filer equals more media... See where I'm going with this?
