Yes you are right long case filter , Purolator Classic L 25288 . Walmart sells this for $3.27 it has to be the best budget filter out there. Just wish Walmart sold the Purolator Gold too . If you are a guy that changes his oil frequently like every 2000 miles I feel like this is a great choice .

Gonna have to try Pep Boys and Autozone. Ive never seen an O'Riellys, dont think they made it to CT yet.
The Pep Boys in Manchester CT stocks 10-30 VR1. I was also able to order cases from car quest. Keep in mind this oil is terrible for street use and should be changed every month or two.

Thats only true of the NSL formula, I can't remember what color the bottle is for that kind but it has little to no detergents in it.

Which VR1 are you talking about ? Yes VR1 NSL black bottle , not street legal should not be run more than 500 miles . Must guys use for track use only and change after every event. VR1 conventional gray bottle can be run safely on the the street , but I would not try to push it to 6k intervals.

Good to know, I was under the assumption that the grey bottle lacked the same detergents as the black bottle. I use the grey bottle in my track car that gets changed very often, I like it a lot. I also have an oil cooler so temps stay in check.

Mac, that is the stuff they carry. They also stock the black bottle. Try a local Carquest though, I used to buy cases of the 10-30 VR1 grey bottle from them and it was very cheap. Then they went and closed down. If all else fails you can snag a case online or maybe order through a local speed shop.

Default Castrol Edge European formula 0w- 40

Yes I'm bringing back from the dead , it's been over a year since anyone has posted anything. Didn't see any point in starting a new thread. Well it's almost spring and time to bring our cars out and do spring cleaning. Thought Id post up oil specials I have found here local , but sure many these are nationwide. First is O'Reillys they do not stock Castrol Edge European formula 0w-40 but will special order it , and it qualifies for promo special price, which is $ 32.99 5 qts and wix filter or upgrade to K&N for $4 more. Next Autozone they stock it. $ 29.99 5qt and STP extended life filter or upgrade Mobil 1 filter for $4 more. And last the real bargain is Walmart a 5qt jug is $22.97 and they have the old Purolator classic long case L25288 for only $ 1.50. So for $24.47 is very cheap 5 qts and filter. If like the regular short filter they still have those $3.27. I personally like the long case in what ever brand I use.

I just got some at Advanced Auto Parts for $32 with a new Bosch fancy filter. Felt really heavy duty.

I'm not sure if the K&N is an "upgrade" from a Wix, I think I'd rather have a Wix, the XP version if possible.

I'll say at Walmart they do have the best price on German Castrol 0W-40. While you're there, the best filter they carry is the Fram Ultra which is a high end synthetic filter, certainly better than the Purolator Classic.

I had no idea Walmart carried it. It's not on the shelves here. I always bought from O'Reilly or Autozone. I also wasn't aware you could get the European blends in the 5QT jug. I've always had to buy it by the quart. I'll have to look in to that.

Some of the local walmarts here carry it in 5 qt jugs only.

But the price is typically in the range that it's cheaper to buy the 5 qt plus good filter deal at the parts store if someone is running that special. I do usually pick up an extra 5qt jug from there to add the extra qt at each change plus top off between changes.

Is this the German Castrol everyone is talking about? What temperature range is the 0w30 good for?

I run the 0w40 year round with no issues

Where do you get it? Is the 0w40 okay in colder weather? Normally my car only gets driven during spring, summer, and fall. I'm currently using Joe Gibbs LS30.

Wal-Mart stocks 5qt jugs here and several of the auto parts store chains stock single qts.

It's more likely to be stocked in higher class areas which would have a lot of European cars from what I've seen.

I didn't have an oil pressure change when I went from 0w30 GC to 0w40GC. The 0w30 was known for being a thicker 30w than normal so it could be the same oil just with a rating to reflect that?

I dunno, I'm not an oil expert but I know my car has lower pressure with other 40w oils and this stuff is cheap enough local that I just switched back to running it exclusively.

My oil pressure went up going from VR1 to Joe Gibbs LS30. The Joe Gibbs LS30 is pricey though.

I haven't had a problem in my daily but I've also not ran an oil analysis. I've ran it year round for 3 years now (about 40k miles).

Im running GC here and it seems fine in colder weather. I don't really drive the car in the winter but it sees temps hovering around freezing. My local walmart doesnt carry it so I order it online and have it shipped to the store for free.

Yes Walmart does have the best price on German Castrol and it's 2 dollars less than this time last year . And this not a oil Special it's their everyday price. I just added the Purolator classic because its only one of the few they sell. I usually buy the Purolator gold , but Walmart does not sell it. Purolator is changing its line up from the white classic and gold Purolator One . The new line up Red filter replaces the the classic , and Blue One replaces the gold , and new extended use black filter called the Boss. Paul , I respectfully disagree with Fram being a better filter than Purolator , if you would cut the two apart you would see what I'm talking about. I personally would not put a Fram on anything I own. A cheapo STP is even better than the lower level Frams. As for the wix , it is a very good filter .Here in my market we still have Carquest and their filters are made by Wix. But Advance has bought Carquest and the 3 remaining stores will convert over to Advance Auto by year end sorry to see them go.

Yes, I agree, FRAM SUCKS-except their Ultra. It's on par with a small handful of very good synthetic filters: https://ls1tech.com/forums/generatio...-examined.html
