Since German Castrol is gone.... (IT'S NOT!!)
Mac, that is the stuff they carry. They also stock the black bottle. Try a local Carquest though, I used to buy cases of the 10-30 VR1 grey bottle from them and it was very cheap. Then they went and closed down. If all else fails you can snag a case online or maybe order through a local speed shop.

I'll say at Walmart they do have the best price on German Castrol 0W-40. While you're there, the best filter they carry is the Fram Ultra which is a high end synthetic filter, certainly better than the Purolator Classic.

But the price is typically in the range that it's cheaper to buy the 5 qt plus good filter deal at the parts store if someone is running that special. I do usually pick up an extra 5qt jug from there to add the extra qt at each change plus top off between changes.

It's more likely to be stocked in higher class areas which would have a lot of European cars from what I've seen.
I didn't have an oil pressure change when I went from 0w30 GC to 0w40GC. The 0w30 was known for being a thicker 30w than normal so it could be the same oil just with a rating to reflect that?
I dunno, I'm not an oil expert but I know my car has lower pressure with other 40w oils and this stuff is cheap enough local that I just switched back to running it exclusively.
