Everything im seeing so far is that the LS6 out performs this intake.

Yeah, that's not a surprise at all, it's what I figured from the start. Dorman is only know for being a lower priced alternative replacement for the more expensive factory parts, not a performance intake manifold upgrade. Imo, it's still a good option for the price, IF you're willing to modify it.

Let me pose this question: do you guys think this would be a worthwhile mod for a stock internal bolt on car?

My engine is stock internally, will be for a long while. Full bolt ons except still has LS1 manifold. Willing to do port/cleanup work on it. If it could get me 90% of the gains of a true LS6 I would be satisfied.

I'm going to have the intake off to do the LS6 valley cover, and planned on having the car re-tuned this summer because I do not know what the current tune is like. Seems like the right time to try out the dorman intake.

Thoughts?

^Yes. I think at the bolt-on only level, you wouldn't notice a difference at all between this and the OEM LS6, in the pants or on paper. I bought one with the intention of doing what you're doing. Now I'm going ***** out on this car and that intake is on the shelf until I buy another 98-00 car later on down the road. You can take quite a bit of material out of the TB inlet on these, if you're so inclined. I opened it up from 73-74 mm to 78 mm.

Thumbs up Ls2

I have been trying to get in touch with some people on the LS2 manifold but have not had any success. Is anyone available for a discussion on this manifold? Private message me a contact and number if available. Thanks!

So did dorman every fix the intake so the ports better matched up? And has anyone tested a ported dorman vs a ported ls6? Looking to upgrade from my LS1 intake and need the info. Thanks all!

I have some solid tech to add to this article. I bought the dorman ls6 and I measured the throttle body opening, just like everyone else's, it measured around 73mm. Then I went and measured my gen3 truck intake throttle body opening, it measures 75mm, and my gen3 dbw throttle body measured about 75mm.
So at least in my case, I'll open up the dorman ls6 throttle body opening to 75-76mm and call it a job.

I opened mine up to the stock TB size with little issue. Cleaned up the runners, removed the 'wing' caused by the FAST lower and dorman upper. Very high quality intake, super pleased for the cost. No doubt it will outperform the LS6 slightly with the little bit of work of removing the wing and matching the upper/lower.

The wing that you are referring to is that right behind the tb mouth opening ?

Though I'd just pass this along to anyone in central Ohio that is thinking about buying a Dorman LS6 intake . There is going to be a LSX Swap Meet in Columbus Ohio this Sunday and they will be raffling off a new LS6 intake. If you want more info pm me or check out the post in the regional section.

Small update: Made 404rwhp cam only with the lightly ported dorman and a smaller cam. Safe to say it makes decent power with a little work.

We might could have gotten a few more HP out of it, but ran out of injector.
