So I bought the Potz Speed throttle body off eBay the other day (Christmas eve), and have yet to receive any messages from them. I know that they were closed Christmas eve/day, no biggie, but I was hoping for a response today. I'm wondering how their system works? Like how would I specify if I wanted the polished springs or their coolant bypass kit? Also, I paid eBay the extra $12.50 for shipping, so will Potz email me a shipping label so I can send my TB to them? I didn't pay the $100 core charge, as it was never an option, so I wouldn't expect them to send me a finished one first. I'm not doubting their company at all, I'm just confused about the whole process. Their eBay listing has a great description and all that, but it doesn't tell how the actual purchase/options and shipping works, just the $100 core charge and eventual refund.

ALRIGHT GUYS, I AM ADDING THIS WRITE UP ON HOW THE POTZ SPEED EBAY PROCESS WORKS

THIS IS HOW IT WORKED FOR MY SPECIFIC NEEDS, YOURS MAY DIFFER SLIGHTLY

I'll just do it in numbered order for ease of reading and your viewing pleasure.

1- Find the listing on ebay, and click the ol' "Buy it Now" button.

2- Go through the usual Ebay check out stuff.

3-Ok, once you have done that, Potz Speed will send you a message THROUGH EBAY with a few questions he needs to know. Like year, LS1/LS6, Traction control or not, do you want the coolant lines cut/capped, etc. HE WILL INQUIRE ABOUT ANY OPTIONAL PRODUCTS YOU WOULD LIKE AT THIS POINT, like their coolant bypass kit or stainless fastener set.

---3a- This is where the path can make a few different turns. For starters, it was during this Ebay conversation that it was decided that I would SEND AND RECEIVE my SAME throttle body, instead of him sending me a finished one first. This is where he gave me his shipping address.

---3b- It COULD be here that he will tally up the total bill and send you an invoice via PAYPAL.

---3c- It could also be here that you and Potz will work out some other deal.

4- He will send you a PAYPAL invoice for however much you owe, depending on what deal you and Potz worked out. In my case, since I was sending and receiving the same throttle body, he sent me an invoice for only the coolant bypass kit ($3.99) I ordered during the Ebay conversation.

---4a- If you choose to have him send you a completed core first, he will send you the $100 invoice to pay, which will then be returned upon receiving your core.

5- At this point, he will then ship you the completed product, which you will receive eventually.

---5a- In MY case, at this point I boxed up my TB and shipped it to him, which I had to pay the shipping charges for. The $12.50 shipping cost on ebay goes towards sending the product back I believe.

---5b- Once he received my core, he had his work order that we discussed on the ebay conversation, did all the work, then shipped it back to me.

6- If he sent you a core first, you will have to ship your stock, unmodified TB back to him once you receive the completed core.

7- Once he receives your unmodified core, he will refund the $100 Paypal charge.

8- Install that bad boy and go!


Really I did this write up because I could never find a clear, definitive answer about how the ebay conversation/paypal charges work. Hopefully this can help somebody else who may have been in the same confused situation as I was.

The TB looks great, definitely a great piece of work and worth every dollar if you are not heavily modded.

John at Potz Speed was a great guy to deal with. He answered every question I had during the ebay convo (which was alot, and I apologized to him for, but he was perfectly happy to answer them all). He had zero issues with my request to send in my TB and receive the same one back, there was no complication in processing or payment at all.

I would definitely and highly recommend their work above any stock TB porting service.

He was even nice enough to polish the sensors that I accidentally left still attached. What a guy!

 

I bought one and got it then sent my stock one back. It's been a while but iirc you have like 30 days to send your stock one back before you're charged a core fee. Just message him through ebay for whatever you want and he should get back to you.

 

I'm hoping he gets back to me on Monday, so I can hopefully get it sent out early Monday

 

Just did this recently and I remember he did take a little while to respond. I think the whole process took about 2-3 weeks for me.

1. Bought on ebay and paid the initial fee.
2. He then sends a separate invoice for the core deposit and spec request where you put if you want polished springs/coolant bypass.
3. Once the core payment clears, He'll start the process and then ship it to you
4. After you install your new TB you'll then ship your old one to him and once he receives it he'll refund the core deposit.

CoreyD, that's exactly the response I was looking for! I couldn't figure out if he would send me a separate email about if I wanted the polished springs, etc etc. Thank you very much! Should be a nice piece.

 

No problem! He does great work. All the bolts and hardware and such came in nice labeled bags which I thought was a nice touch.

 

Was I supposed to remove the sensors? Because I sent it out without removing them, then I thought about it, and it never makes a mention on if I should remove them or not.

 

Yeahhh you were supposed to remove those lol. I'm sure he could send them back

 

Maybe I'll ask him to polish the one metal sensor (throttle position?). He can even PayPal charge me if need be. I'm hoping he won't be mad that I sent it with them

 

I just got one from him in the chrome powder with the red spring. I read all the hooplah about the core and the one with sensors and all the extra upgrades. The more I searched though I found one in his store that said no core and both sensors for like $159 or something. Whatever it was it defied everything the other adds promoted and was waay cheaper. He was like nice find. Anyway, he will respond by sending you a paypal invoice for the core charge. He gets in contact with you but the holidays may have held it up. Here's a pic of mine on my motor. It stepped the whole crappy motor up a level. lol

 

So he emailed me back a few days after Christmas. He had a checklist of things I should tell him in the response list, like "is it a traction control car", year, model, etc. I responded to that, and I also asked if I could send my core in and receive the same core back, he had no problem with that, sent me his mailing address and a PayPal invoice for the total amount of extra "options", which was just the coolant bypass kit for me, I paid that and shipped the TB to him the next day. The $12.50 paid during the eBay purchase portion goes to covering the RETURN shipping, I still had to pay the USPS shipping charge when I sent it out in priority mail. (May be different shipping charges if you have him send a core first). When I receive the TB back, I'll do a full writeup of how the process works so future people aren't confused like me, maybe I'll even send it to Potz Speed so they can update their eBay listings with the process.
