Default Y pipe hitting floorboard

Hey all. What is the easiest way to fix this? I Guessing I just need to put something heat resistant up there or wrapped around the pipe to stop it. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Some people have taken a 2x4 or a crowbar and pried it down a little.

Might try a poly motor mount.

Or, rehang the exhaust with shims and a floor jack so
you know you have clearance where it counts before
you tighten it back up.

Someone did a thing w/ hose clamp & spring that they
were happy with.

I don't understand what you mean. You mean bending the pipe downward more so its further away from the bottom of the car? I don't know how much that would help as it was practically snug to the bottom of the car when I installed the headers. Can I wedge something in there, or wrap something soft around the pipe?

Re hanging the exhaust won't fix it because it hits right at the end of the headers where it connects to the y pipe. Im sorry I should have beem more specific. It's on the drivers side right where the Y pipe and Header join.

I had an AAP Y-Pipe and it hit the floorboard. I had a flexible exhaust hanger mounted onto it. I then put a hole into it and secured that to the car. It was rigid enough to hold the Y-Pipe away from the car. If I still had the car I would take some pics for you.

If it's a 3-bolt flange, have you tried rotating it
for maximum clearance? Sounds more and more
like a poly motor mount may be what you want.
If there's clearance when the car is not running
but it interferes under torque.

Or, maybe you just want to dimple up the floor
pan right where the interference is, get yourself
half an inch and nobody is likely to notice under
the carpet and all.

Well I have QTP headers and a 3" x 4" Y pipe, so I had the same problem. I noticed mine was only hitting because GM put a floor pan reinforcement right in the way. So I cut a path through the reinforcement, then welded a new reinforcement on TOP of the floorpan, under the carpet infront of the driver's seat. You can't even tell it's there, and there is plenty of room for my large Y pipe.

If you look under the car, (on the drivers side) you'll see a heat shield thats screwed into the floorboard w/ a 10mm screw. I took a piece of radiator hose (cut to a 6"x6" in. square) and drilled a hole in it and stuck it in between the heat shield and floorboard, lined up the holes and screwed it back in. That way the hose is screwed in, and wont fall out. So now the Y-pipe rests on the hose and not the floorboard. Works great!!

Try a poly tranny mount.

Well I have a poly tranny mount already. So thats out. Poly motor mount might be a bit of work. I'm gonna have to get her up and see what I can do. I believe the heat shield in that vacinity was already removed during the install. I'll have to see what I can fab up. Thanks for all the suggestions.

Weld a valve spring to the Y-pipe on the spot where it is hitting the floorboard and put a little foam on the top of it. It will hold it off the floorboard and keep it from banging.

Excellent! I like that! Most original idea yet!
