Default LS1 intake on LQ4

I'm going to install a LQ4 with a 4L60 with 3.42 in the rear end of my 81 Malibu. I don't really like the truck intake so I wanted to swap out the truck intake for a 98 LS1 intake that I had laying around. I know I'm gonna lose power. Does anyone have an idea how much power I'd lose? HP and torq? Any ideas how to gain it back? Or is it worth going with the LS1 intake?

Is there room under the hood for the truck intake ? If so that can open up a lot of options for intakes that flow great and don't break the bank. You could also do a LS6 or a FAST car intake if you want to spend some $$$. I've read the truck intake flows about the same as a ls6 so that's 10-15 more than the ls1. Your not going to loose a ton of power going to the ls1 but you are going to leave some power on the table.

I would think you'd lose more torque than horsepower. The longer runners of the truck intake make more low end and midrange than the ls1 intake will. I do have a friend selling a bare ls6 for 280 I believe if your interested in going that route. The fast upgrade was a noticeable upgrade for me, but it's stupid expensive.

Considering the LQ4 has the LS1 cam, probably none. May be a slight shift in low end torque.

Definitely lose some low end torque, if this is a budget build (sounds like it) and you're aware of the injector connectors that are necessary I'd say do what You prefer and don't be concerned with the slight loss.

Did you still have perimeter bolt heads? Those 98-early 99 cars did seem to run hard.

I don't remember but that car was super nasty with just a tune in it. I raced a new Porsche once, I could tell by the look on the guys face he THOUGHT he was going to destroy me. I was in the right lane and him left lane. I heard him rev high and light went green.................I beat him up so bad I think he traded it in.

That car hooked and booked! Best running LS1 I ever drove or owned. It may of had work done internally before I bought it. After 130k it lost number 7 piston.

The LS1 intake is well documented to be a step down from the truck. Not a HUGE step backwards but a step backwards. Ignore those who swear it is all about lowend torque with the truck intake. It is just ego for lack of a better description and refusing to believe a truck part could be any good. Just like the truck guys who can't believe a car could use the same 4L60E.....
