Default Car throwing P0332 code after header install, another issue also

So on April 21st my car finally had its headers installed, 1 3/4 stianless steel headers from Speed Engineering, encountered no issues with the installation.

I pulled the PCM out the next day after giving it a 10 mile test run and sent the PCM to Frost for a mail order tune. My mods included:

P&P TB
SLP Lid
SLP LM1 cat-back
1 3/4 LT headers

I noted all of those things on the sheet. Received the PCM in the mail on April 28th, installed it that night, no issues. Car runs great. Then yesterday, April 29th, after driving the car for 80 miles on its new tune the SES light comes on. I get the code read at a local Autozoen, P0332 code, which is supposed to be a knock sensor I believe. Has anyone encountered this?

Some additional information that I think is worth sharing. After the header install the car does make a weird vibration sometimes. I've noticed it's only when accelerating from a dead stop, usually through the bottom of 1st (it's an auto car also). The vibration feels to me to be directly underneath my seat on the undercarriage of the car and feels kind of strong, once the car gets above 1,500 RPM it usually goes away. This vibration really only happens maybe 10% of the time on take off from a stop, so overall rare. But someone mentioned that the vibration from the headers could give the knock sensors a false read, so I thought I'd include this.

Any advice or replies are appreciated, would like to get this figured out as it makes me nervous driving the car with the SES light on, and for the record the car seems to drive perfectly, not misbehaving at all.

Your exhaust is hitting the floorboard and the knock sensor is reading it as engine knock. You can try to shove some heater hose in between the Y/header collector and the floorboard and see if it quiets down or stops

Did you do motor mounts at the same time as the headers?

Is this a common issue with headers? I kind of thought that excessive vibration underneath the car might be a bad thing.

If it's throwing a false code just due to vibrations then I shouldn't worry too much about it, right? Unless of course I expect to have the SES light tell me when something is actually wrong.

Very common. That's why the stock Y pipe is squished flat lol. It's also why people recommend doing motor mounts at the same time as the headers. The worn in stock mounts allow the motor to twist and as a result the y pipe bangs against the floor.

If you look under the car you should be able to see the clean spot/scratches on the floorboard where the new Y has been rattling against. That's where you want to put the heater hose or exhaust wrap (or any form of heat-proof padding)

I would try to get the vibrations to a minimum, then get the code cleared (just disconnect the battery for 15ish mins if you don't have a scanner). If it comes back then I would inspect the sensor, but if not then you fixed it (obviously)

Interesting. Had my ARH headers installed last year, and got a dyno tune: about a tank of gas after I had the same code. I did replace the motor mounts with poly, which did result in slightly more vibration.

I cleared the code with my scanner (one of the iPhone Bluetooth jobs...) and it has yet to come back. I thought I may eventually need new knock sensors, but perhaps I'm all set...

Thanks for the awesome reply. I do kind of feel the pipe scratching against the bottom of the car, it's a mix of scratching and vibrating. For a car novice like me though, can you recommend where I could get some exhaust wrap or heat proof padding?

Exhaust wrap at the local auto parts store.

NP! I just did the same install (Speed Eng. 1-3/4" and ORY) on my Arctic White 00' A4 Z28

As far as exhaust wrap you can try any local parts store but make sure its heat wrap so it's nice and padded and not like muffler seal/patch tape. Its cheaper to order from somewhere like eBay though.
