Default Oil behind throttle body

Hey guys, having an odd issue and hoping I can get some help. Setup is as followed:

LS6 Intake Manifold
LS6 Valley Cover
Vent hose from passenger valve cover to throttle body
PCV hose from valley cover to intake manifold with inline PCV valve

I pulled off my intake elbow today in anticipation of porting my throttle body and the first thing I noticed was a little bit of oil on the bottom of the butterfly blade. Pull off the throttle body and there is a sizable pool of oil in the bottom of the intake manifold (rear of car is in the air right now, so I'm assuming it all came forward which is why I haven't seen it before).

Motor is fresh rebuild, has roughly 2k miles on it right now. Been driving strong, no issues, no evidence that it has been burning oil.

Just wanted to know 1) is this normal and 2) is there anything I can do to prevent it. I am assuming the answer to #2 would be a catch can.

It is normal and yes, you need a catch can.

Thanks for the response, greatly appreciated. Any recommended catch cans, or just an off the shelf / ebay one will do?

Really any should do get one you like or fits in the budget. I personally don't have a Pcv system at all I just run breathers. But my car isn't a daily driver either.

I was just doing a deep search on this Friday lol. The ebay ones don't really do much since the cans are bascially just an empty can. There are a number of different companies that make reliable ones or you can make one yourself, depending on your budget. Do a search on Catch Can and one thread in particular should answer all your questions, it's like 30 pages long!

Ha, I actually saw that thread. I actually already ordered one of the cheaper ones simply because I'm not afraid to work with my hands, and saw many people who used the cheaper ones and then modified them to add baffling and filtering to aid in the air to oil separation process, which I'll be doing.

For $20 + ~$10 for a few parts to baffle vs $200, can't complain.

I was looking at doing that too, which one did you go with and where are you planning on mounting it? The P.O. removed the A/C, so I'd like to find one that fits in the bracket where the accumulator used to go.

I went with this one:

Amazon.com: Rev9Power Rev9_AC-092-BLACK; Universal Oil Catch Can Type 2 750ml(black): Automotive Amazon.com: Rev9Power Rev9_AC-092-BLACK; Universal Oil Catch Can Type 2 750ml(black): Automotive

You can see how somebody else modified this exact type here:

As for where I plan to mount it, I wish I could help you with that but my LS is actually a swap into an S2000, so our locations would be completely different, lol.
