Default D585 Coils

I have been wondering if anyone is still using these in place of the stock ls1 coils? I have searched and found very recent information. Anything to be gained along with a H/C/I swap??

Not unless you have a problem with your current coils

I don't see why NOT to use them. Any possible gains aside, engines often run smoother and respond better with them.

In your search, did you see the stickie?

Yet for some reason, FI guys usually go to the higher powered truck coils.

Forced induction often needs help preventing spark blowout. Won't have that issue with NA

As for reasons not to use them: cost, needing modification to brackets and bending fuel rail slightly, aesthetics (I find them ugly compared to stock coils or square truck coils), and needing tune to adjust dwell to see the full benefit of them.

Things easily overlooked if they gained HP consistently but there is little to no evidence that they do. Not that there is anything wrong with running them but not something worth going out of your way to get and install IMO. But yes the sticky has all that information and OP can decide for himself if it's something he would like to do.

I actually did read the sticky. However, it is several years old and I see very little activity or talk about the usage of the D585 coils now. I thought they were plug and play with no tuning required...?

They will work just fine plug and play, but most people prefer to change the dwell time as that's one of their big benefits.

There's little discussion on them because everything about using them is in the sticky thread. That's how "how to" threads work, it's all there.

Post one in it details how it's not plug & play without first doing a few things. Not hard stuff tho...
