Default Obnoxious sound

Hi Everyone,
I have an 02 Camaro SS that I have been building this year and while I love the performance, I hate the sound, it's too damn loud. I know there is an exhaust thread that is 64 pages long, and I checked the ls1 sounds page, but I thought it might be better to post my setup.

Car is an 02 with an M6. Factory suspension except for a BMR torque arm. Factory front tires (10"), and 11" wide rears.

Mods list:
KN cold air intake
Granatelli MAF
MSD Atomic Intake manifold
Trick Flow heads
Mild Comp Cam
MSD coils
SLP Headers with high flow cats
SLP Loudmouth 2 catback
Some other mods that are probably not relevant
Dyno tuned, making 404 at the wheels

Local shop put a j-pipe on yesterday and really did nothing to quite it down, a little at idle maybe... Will wake the dead when it starts cold, I don't mind loud when I get on it, but it's just over the top with the current exhaust.

Do you guys have any suggestions to tone this thing down? I just ordered some 17" tips with resonators hoping they will help, but I'm wondering about a true dual 3" setup, or open to suggestions...

Thanks in advance for any help

A J-pipe is supposed to offset the sound waves that are offensive, without effecting air flow. It's a dead ended pipe that sound can enter and reverb back to cancel out certain sound frequencies. It is also called a Hemholz resonator, and is used to reduce drone.

Gotcha. I'm surprised it's that loud to you even with the cats on. You could try a resonator in the I - section of the y-pipe

My buddy that helped me build it is on the Dodge driving team, and he thinks the SLP Loudmouth 2 catback isn't made for cars making the horsepower I'm pushing, at least not for the street. I'm ready to cut it out and go another way, but hoping for some direction...

Check youtube for exhaust sounds to see what you like, everyone is different so what is loud to you will be too quiet to someone else.
The loudmouth exhausts are certainly on the loud side of things, check out MagnaFlow or hooker, both are cheap and pretty quiet. Then you can add an electric cutout if you want to be loud.

You have one of the loudest exhausts you can buy. I have a magnaflow exhaust that I loved when I had longtubes. Quiet at idle and regular driving with a nice sound at WOT. Plus it looks REALLY nice being stainless steel.

I would consider a dual 2.5" system without bigger tips. Something like 3" cats into a 3" in X with 2.5" dual out into a pair of resonators on to a pair of 2.5" magnaflow mufflers.

This is exactly what I would run if I were to redo my current setup(3"catback single)

It would sounds REALLY nice and not be crazy loud. My car is loudest at startup flare as well.

That blackheart really does look like a great choice.

Swap out the "muffler" on the slp with a Magnaflow or something that actually cut down on the Db.

Google Magna-mouth or Borla-mouth for some examples of what I'm talking about

The factory option Dual/Dual exhaust delivers a great tone at a reasonably low volume... and it flows very well. Not the easist kit out there to find but one of the best.

The LM2 sounds decent with stock manifolds but not so much with LT's. Add the cam and I can understand why you aren't happy with it. Change the muffler or the entire exhaust with a better set up is my advice. Also be sure that your y pipe isn't one of those terribly designed types with both banks being positioned so that the exhaust streams ram into each other. If you want a y pipe setup, get something with a nice merge, so that the two streams come togeather side by side. I'd say go true duals if you want my OP, best sound and performance.
