Default Replacement alternator options

Looks like my stock alternator has taken a dump just before 100k miles.

Looking for replacment options. I would prefer not to do the truck upgrade, as i want to continue to use the rear mounting bracket.

Obviously, a slightly higher output would be nice, but fitment and longevity is king.

Thanks
Tony

I think Remy is one of the better brands of replacement alternators. If you look on Rock auto, you can buy either a new or reman remy. I actually think they supply gm with their new oe alternators, but I'm not sure.

Powermaster has a selection of higher amp alternators in the CS130D case.

BUT the rectifiers are still pretty small. The larger CS144 case fixes that.

Many have done the upgrade to the larger unit without issues caused by the lack of the rear support-including me.

if you don't want to do the truck upgrade I'd say get your stocker rebuilt for higher output.

This ^^^^. I am using a truck alt. with absolutely no issues. That rear bracket is redundant and not a good enough excuse to not use the truck alt.

I don't think I've heard of anyone who had an issue caused by no back support. I mean the alternators are designed to work with the truck that has no back support.

But the trucks dont go around a road course or pull 1g on a skid pad.

It might be overkill, but dont want something to come free at the track.

The only "racing" concern I would have with the truck unit would be super high > 7500 rpm revving. I can't find a single example of one wiggling loose and failing. AFAIK the LS7 doesn't even use a rear bracket and those things have seen a few tracks. I understand overkill, I mean heck I run a 9" and my only engine mod so far is a lid, but I don't think this is a place where there is any gain. If you have a procharger though that would be a justification to stick stock.

I run mine from an '03 Escalade, the 145 amp one, I bought an ACDelco from Amazon. Mine has seen auto-x, and if everything goes to plan it'll see a road course this year as well.

I just replaced mine with a new Napa unit. It has a lifetime warranty and is easy enough to swap out. So if it dies in a few years I'll take it back for a replacement

What was the amp rating of the unit you used?

I've been using a locally rebuilt CS130D with an ASP 2.75" pulley to get rid of my overcharging problems above 6000RPM. But I don't like having to maintain an idle RPM of over 900RPM to get the idle charging to be at stock levels. I'm considering looking for a Powermaster alternator which will give me the desired stock voltage at idle RPM's but that is good until 18000 alternator shaft RPM. Then keep my current alternator as a spare.

The powermaster units are nice, just pricey.

I am considering getting a junkyard unit to replace mine and then having mine rebuilt locally as a spare.

Do the truck alternators use the same plug? Looking at pictures the Camaro has a large plastic piece on it that the trucks don't.

Yes, same plug. It's a plug & play install.
