Rear gear probably makes the most logical sense in my position. The rear end is roaring like thunder. Found oil splattered above the pinion seal. Was going to rebuild the whole rear end. So may as well switch gears. What are the mpgs expected when switching and having a 6 speed

With 4.10s you can still expect good gas mileage, I had a 6 speed with 4.10s they are perfect in my opinion.

If you wanting a sleeper you could get the MagnaFlow catback and get a small cam and no one would ever know.

I like the rear gear. Should help a little with those rolling launches you think? I really like my borlas sound and I would pry keep it. Like the small cam. Somthing to address the low- mid range. There are just so many options

The 4.10s may drop hwy mpg's a tad but city should be close. Where you'll notice a big mpg loss is when doing a cam

You will have plenty of ground clearance with 1 7/8" unless you are lowered... I'm lowered 2" and haven't scraped mine yet.. if you are wanting a sleeper and no cam in the future, I'd do the 1 7/8" with cats and and LS6 intake.. you could pull both mods for close to $1000.. then do a frost mail order tune for $150

Ok, now that I unerstand your budget... Depending on how far you plan to go with the car, an FAST 92/102 may be more flow than you need. If you don't plan on doing heads AND cam at some point, then I personally think you would be wasting your money on a FAST, no disrespect to anyone. If you only plan to stay at bolt ons and maybe a small cam, the ls6 intake should be plenty of flow; I don't think you would see any more power with FAST intakes at that stage. You can get a ls6 intake on ebay for half the price of a FAST, then use the rest of that money to get long tubes and a high flow Y pipe, which is exactly what I would do with your car and 1000 bucks. If you want more after that, get a small cam as mentioned. A small cam will keep the idle sounding near stock, only us lt1/ls1 guys will know the difference. And speaking of keeping a stock sound... You can get your heads ported and pick up huge gains, but it will sound exactly the same. However, there will be very little gains seen from this without LT headers attatched to them. The stock manifolds are pretty restrictive, so putting better heads in front of them wont yield much without uncorking the exhaust system. As for your rear end, fill it up with fluid first and see if that is the only problem; low fluid. If not, take it apart and inspect the bearings for wear. Just because it is groaning, doesn't necessarily mean you fried your diff or anything tragic like that. You can replace all the bearings for around $100 or less. Hell, it could be your axle bearing and not the differential as you suspect. If that's the case, you will want to get to it asap before it ruins your axle.

Think the schoenfeld headers are a waste of time? I know the kooks are really good. But what's the comparison? Thicker material?

Speed engineer 1 7/8" LT/ORY -$480
Msd 8.5 mm wires & ngk tr55-$86
Poly motor and Trans mount-$95
Stainless steel exhaust studs-$17 (ebay)
Ported/polished stock TB- $75 (ebay potz)
Frost mail order tune - $150

This is what I did with my car for under $1000 and the prices I paid. Great power gains, but you would need the ls6 intake and look into cats to quiet your exhaust.. which would put you over $1000..

I'm building on a budget myself, so im trying to save where i can but being realistic about it.

Did you wrap your headers by chance? And how's that throttle body treating you? Did you notice any difference. Would you buy it again

No I didn't wrap the headers and under hood Temps seem fine and car maintains temp.. the throttle body most likely doesn't add a ton of power but I noticed better throttle response.. for $75 I think it's worth doing since you already have an intake

I put this on other threads but no answer. I plan to do the tubes for sure. But also have to rebuild the rear end. Who has a high quality rebuild kit. I hear negative reviews of most kits bearings
