Default Custom Intake w/ Velocity Stack Question

Has anyone on here done a custom intake setup with a velocity stack on a car WITH AC? I know it's been done on non-AC cars, but not sure if anyone has actually done it on a car with AC. I would like to do 4" tubing, but am not opposed to 3.5" or even 3" if that allows me to do it and keep AC. I plan on doing this in conjunction with a FAST 102mm intake and Nick Williams 102mm TB. My car is SD tuned, so I have no MAF. Here is a thread that I'm referencing, but this one was done on a non-AC car.

I have done this and retained ac. I went from 4" up front and tapered to 3 1/2" where I cut the core support. Looking at it now I could have kept it 4". It is tight though. ~7" stack with inline filter up front.

70° bends follows up the condenser good for me. Hope this helps.

Any chance you can post some pictures of the setup? I appreciate your response.

The plan is to do it myself. I'm getting a FAST 102mm intake and NW 102mm TB, so I want to do this at the same time.

Gotcha. If you remove your lid and lower air box you can see how much room you will have between the rad support and the condenser. Then you will see how much will need to be cut out.

Here is where I notched mine for the sux2bu ram air. You would have a larger one notch.

Thanks Zack. Vengeance Racing has a deal going on right now on their ported FAST 102mm intakes, so I'm going to jump on that. Figured while I'm doing that, I might as well do what I've been wanting to do all along with the intake setup. The one that Shane fabbed looks exactly the way I want mine to.

I'll remember to snap a pic tomorrow. It's very similar to 04BlackGMC's setup except I cut much deeper toward the front. I have an inch or so material left in the cut area. I have the maf still, but that won't matter for you.

My setup isn't welded either, I have a coupler in the middle just on the inside of the cut in the radiator support for easy removal. I bought some thick metal strips to make a new hood latch support out of the way of the pipe. Otherwise you have to slam the hood shut and it flutters at speed.

This is my ac condenser clearance... The coupler isn't touching up front its just the angle of the pic.

And the front, I left the stack slightly recessed so I can put the front plate on for DD things like rain, bugs etc.

Where did you order all you piping from? Did you go steel, or aluminum? I know I'm going to need one straight pipe, but unsure if I'm going to need 90 degree or 70 degree bends. You said something about using 70 degree bends, but I know Shane used two 90 degree pipes on the one he built. Your setup looks great by the way.

I got the 3.5" piece off of eBay, the 4" was somewhere else I can't remember. You may be able to get the 4" off eBay too although I had a tough time finding that bend. They are aluminum.

90° is way too hard of a turn for me it didnt work at all. Coming straight off the throttle body and heading down the condenser the 70°-75° worked for me.

If you buy the bends with long enough legs you won't need another straight (possibly). I went slightly overboard on length to keep it two pieces no matter what.

Just to make sure I have this correct, you have a 70 degree bend coming out of the TB/MAF and bending down toward the condenser. Then you have a piece of straight pipe that connects to the 70 degree bend, and then connects to another 70 degree bend that you have coming out of the front bumper support that you attached a velocity stack to.

I didn't buy any straight pieces. The bends I bought were long enough together to reach top to bottom by themselves. The 4" bend is 24" by itself, and the 3.5" bend was 12" by itself. Trimmed them both to get the length I needed.

Edit: from front bumper hole to maf

Velocity stack--> 4" coupler--> 4" bend--> 4"-3.5" coupler--> 3.5" bend --> maf

Okay, so for piping I'll need two 4" with 24 degree bend pipes and a 4" with 12 degree bend, if I decide to make it a full 4" setup. Just trying to make sure I have everything right before I place the order.

Here is what you are looking for, 12" each direction from the bend. 24" overall length, you will need just two of these.

The HPS brand on eBay has a lot of these types of bends, I'm not sure they have the correct length though.

I avoided these shown below to buy less pipe and reduce couplers/welding.

Thanks man, you've been a big help. I'll check out HPS on ebay and see if they have what I need.
