Default Header Advice

Looking for some help before purchasing new headers. I currently have the old style SLP Longtube headers but with installing Viking Coilovers my lowering ability is quite limited.

I'm currently looking at ARH and Kooks headers. My car is already custom tuned and I do not have cats or any emissions systems on the car. Everywhere I have read, suggests going with the ARH headers if you are going to be using their Y pipe which I do plan on using. I have the CME exhaust that I plan on continuing to use.

The other question that I have is whether I should upgrade to the 1 7/8 headers as oppose to the 1 3/4 which is what the SLP headers are now?

Any information you can provide is much appreciated. Thank you!

You'll pick up power even on a stock cube ls1 with the 1 7/8s so I see no reason not to upgrade.

It didn't feel like I lost anything down low when I put my headers on. I know if you search on here vendors have proven 7/8 is the way to go

The stepped ARH might just be the happy medium, but I am bias because that is the route i took. Many may also say Speed Engineering headers too. I chose to spend an obscene amount of $$$ on the stepped ARH and their catted y-pipe. The fit was flawless and I had to remove nothing. I will never know if less costly headers would have yealed the same results.....

I run 1 7/8 kooks with their true duals. Absolutely love it. My engine is stock, but I'm building for the future. Gained 35 rwhp with this and a slp cold air kit.

Thanks for the information guys. I decided to listen to everyone and go with the 1 7/8 ARH. I went with the race headers and the non-catted Y pipe. I'll post pictures of the install as I go. I'll say this, getting those old style SLP headers off was not the easiest.

Passenger side I had to lowered the transmission to tilt the motor back and on the driver's side I had to remove the oil filter.

Hoping the ARHs will slide right in without issues. I plan on buying new AC Delco plugs, gm header gaskets, and MSD plug wires.

That's what I'm looking for. I'm upgrading to MSD plug wires. Did you use anything on your wires to protect them from the heat?

Kooks 1 7/8. I have 1 3/4 and there isn't THAT much of a difference but why not go with the extra space. I also have Viking Coilovers and have about 4" from the collectors to the ground. Have to be careful over those speed bumps.
