Default SLP long tubes vs. ARH/kooks long tubes

Currently have a set of SLP long tubes on my car 1 3/4 primaties. Would I benefit much in the power department from switching to a ARH/kooks 1 3/4 long tube?

No, would be a waste of $1500.00 for 1-2 HP give or take.

I beg to differ. The SLP longtubes are the header equivalent of a flowmaster catback on these cars. Sure it's better than manifolds, but not in the same league as even TSP or Speed Engineering.

OP, I'd sell what you have and grab a set of either Speed Engineering or Texas Speed 1 7/8"

That's kinda what I've been reading over the last few days and that's why I was considering making the change.

Slp headers were the first and worst mod I did to my car. The ground clearance was atrocious and I keep burning out o2 sensors. I switched to kooks and they fit like a glove and have the same clearance as stock manifolds. Don't know if I gained anything, but I don't get stuck on speed bumps anymore.

The original SLP design was pretty bad. One of the primaries makes a u-turn under the passenger side of the car. I made that swap myself years ago on my own car. I did go to a 1 7/8 but I picked up 10rwhp. If you are taking the time to make the swap, I would really suggest going to a 1 7/8

And the TSP 1 7/8" are exactly what I ran on my 2001 SS... #'s in sig.

And they were the FIRST design. Didn't even have the velocity spike like they do now.

I still say that would be be a mod I would circle back around to later. Unless you step up to a bigger diameter primary the power isn't going to be much if any. I tuned a guys car with those old slp headers and it didnt have the peak hp I thought it should have but it put down considerably more torque than most cam only cars. It made 402 lb/ft with a 232/234 cam. This was also through the slp y pipe. I think the fact that those headers are equal length/tuned length primaries is the reason they made more torque. They moved the peak torque a little lower in the rpm range therefore lowering the hp since its just a calculated number from torque and rpm
