Default Ai 232cc 243s vs afr 230 heads 408

Building a 408 and I have a chance to get some afr 230s, but I already have some ai 232cc heads, I plan on boosting it with a d1sc (8-12 lbs) is there any sizable advantage to the afr heads? I have a hard time seeing any.

You will see a decent difference. However on a boosted setup like that, it won't be as dramatic as on a NA setup where you can't just turn up the boost more.

The AFR's have a thicker deck. Which means it will hold up better to more power. So, yeah. Always go with an aftermarket casting when you can.

Are you going to run it N/A until you put the blower on, or are you doing this all at the same time?

Okay, here's my next question; will you put a N/A cam in to start with to optimize the combo in N/A form, or will you put a boost cam in from the get-go? Reason I ask is because if you're going to run an optimal N/A cam, the cam specs for an optimal setup will look much different based on which heads you run. The AFR heads have such high exhaust flow and exception exhaust ports, so you don't want a cam with a lot of duration and you want the LSA to be in the 113 to 115 range. On the other hand, if you run the AI ported 232cc heads, you'll want a cam with more split and duration, and you can run a tighter LSA.

I'll optimize for boost as much as possible. In either case of heads.
